Its still up in the air and really unfortunate for a lot of people. The evacuation order has changed from mandatory to voluntary now the volcanic activity has decreased a bit. A large majority of people have already left the island though trying to start new lives. The kava left on Ambae is covered with ash, dying, and extremely hard to clean. Its really hard to say the short term future availability but we do know some people who have brought cuttings to other islands to preserve the special cultivar.
