Kava on a plane

I'm going to Montenegro with a few friends and leave tomorrow.
This summer I went to the canry islands and was really bummed out I did not bring some kava with me to sip on the beautiful islands.
I was wondering if someone has ever brought some kava in their hand luggage and if it's not a crime to do so lol.

AFAIK since kava was decriminalized in Poland a few weeks ago, it is no longer illegal to possess kava for personal use anywhere in the world you'd want to travel (there is a 2kg limit in Australia). There are bans in place in one or two mid-east countries.
Be sure to keep it in its original commercial packaging.

I have flown all over the US and Caribbean with kava in my carry on and recently went to Norway with a 1/2 pound, all without incident.

Not illegal. I have flown with kava a few times. Certainly be ready to explain that it is an FDA approved herbal supplement, not a controlled substance if it gets to that point. And as kasa_balavu said, do keep the packaging. ziplock baggies might incite a 'see something, say something' response and you'll have more explaining.

congrats on changing law in Poland! in Belarus near by it’s still illegal, as far as I talked to law forums and customs.

can you elaborate on mid-east countries? i am moving to Thailand for six month and can’t find any valuable info about it.

Off the top of my head, kava is illegal in UAE.

I think you'll be fine with kava in Thailand, but @nabanga lives or works in that part of the world and may be able to shed more light on it.

Yes, kava is fine in thailand, laos, vietnam, cambodia - i've been carrying it across these borders for years, as well as ordering by dhl that goes through customs checks.
Where are you going to live in thailand? There is a small group of regular drinkers in bangkok i can put you in touch with. In Laos so far it is only me

Is it illegal to possses kava or just sell/import it? If the latter then that's pretty much what the legal status of kava is in most of the EU

sell/import for sure, but in Belarus the rest will depends of police plans for you in any particular case, how lucky you are. I heard a lot of cases with fraudulent in police. so in Belarus you never sure. it’s how i feel in any case.

@Sasha Serge i guess You come from Belarus and i'd like to ask You about situation there. Becasue propably right now in Poland and Belarus is quiet simmilar situation with kava. I mean its not banned (PL decriminalized it since month ago). So how it is possible that KWK does ship Kava to Belarus but to PL dont :-( ? Maybe they will start shipping kava to PL when more time will pass after law changes ? If somebody have any idea im glad for all answers.

i have one experience. i ordered some medium grind from Edward here to Belarus, Minsk. package wasn’t labeled and it’s was said that it’s a gift. so kava stuck at customs. eventually i got handed me the letter that said i have to come to customs. when i came here customs man said me that he saw in my package suspicious powder and he feel like it ought to be sent to expertise. even if i said that it kava (he didn’t know what is it). so he took my phone number but never call. last thing i now that status on my package was changed to getting out of the country (package has no “from” address so i don’t know where it went). that's the story.
