Who Says Kava Doesn't Reproduce Naturally?

I appreciate the reply and addition of botanical information. I am familiar with ground layering. Most layman and daily kava drinkers who aren't gardeners or farmers constantly hear that kava is only propagated through human intervention, so I do think that many would say, "Kava doesn't...

Who Says Kava Doesn't Reproduce Naturally?

Maybe! Too bad this one looks to have been cut before the nodes had a chance to grow foliage, completing the reproduction that was initiated when the stem touched earth. In the words of the great Dr. Ian Malcolm, "Life finds a way."

Who Says Kava Doesn't Reproduce Naturally?

Thought this pic was interesting. I've heard of this before but never seen it. A kava stem gets so heavy it touches the ground and roots at the nodes, essentially producing new plants.

    News Article Another BKH?

Yes, everyone, Vancouver, WA, which is basically a suburb of Portland. We have a lot of Washingtonians coming over the river so I figured I might as well give them a closer option.

Video Pacific Regional Conference on kava

Importers that do a lot of wholesale are getting containers, which are still cheap. Although getting a container docked and unloaded right now is quite a long term adventure.

Video Pacific Regional Conference on kava

When kava prices exploded about 6 years ago due to shortage from drought, storms, increased demand, etc., I always said they'd never come back down for the international market, no matter how much kava was available. Producers know what they can get and have never seemed too willing to take...

Are we early to the party?

I think it is. At least I hope so (We're about to sign a lease for a second location). It'll be a slow build, as the taste and non-addictive aspects of kava are not immediately attractive. For a lot of people some sort of community, whether online or in person, is what gets them into it.

Why aren't there more greenhouses growing Kava in the U.S. ?

I understand why pacific islands would want to prevent kava from spreading any further. I want to be the only online kava vendor. But I don't know why many people are assuming that Pacific Islanders couldn't compete. They have the advantages of perfect growing conditions, a lot of genetic...

Why aren't there more greenhouses growing Kava in the U.S. ?

I've tried a bunch of kava in a little mini greenhouse here in Oregon. Hard to get cuttings to root, and even rooted cuttings don't last long. I'm sure a more experienced farmer could have more success. Funny enough, the only plant I've gotten to survive more than a couple months is a nene that...

Why does some kava smell like rubber or gasoline?

Improper drying is the culprit. Often it won't be quite dry enough when it's milled and bagged and once it gets into the bag the smell develops. Also can happen if the roots are dried, then get wet and have to be dried again. Shouldn't hurt you, but it sure makes it hard to get down.
