Kava History One remarkably awful missionary in Hawaii.

Catholic missionaries in Polynesia often encouraged kava consumption among the locals as a healthier alternative to getting drunk on liquor. Just because some religions are false doesn't mean all religion is false. That would be like saying all medicines are fake because some people sell...

    Sakau

Rahmwanger is quite good. Almost as good as one of the better Hawaiian cultivars. Overall heady. Hawaiian Pana Ewa is a slightly better version of the same effects. Now there is a kava expert you may have written to recently that claims Rahmedel is amazing. It's chemotype is very heady...

    Chest pain

Kava can cause heartburn, which can cause chest pain. Heartburn does make you slightly more likely to have a heart attack too.

    N@H Stone

There was one batch a few years ago that made me groggier the next day than usual. Right now, I'm in an Isa frame of mind, so okay with heavy.

What sorts of kava can be grown in the Azores

Kumakua grows in Hawaii at higher, cooler elevations. Not a high kavalactone variety, but one of my favorites for overall effects, if you have enough. Personal preference. It should grow fine in the rainier parts of the Azores. Not Sao Miguel, perhaps, but the Western rainier islands. I...

Time to destroy another kava myth

Dragging up an old thread, but ElDudarino brings up a valid point to an extent. My previous calculation was a crude approximation, but if the quantities of kavalactones in the fibers were much greater than the amount released into water for each wash, then it would actually be a sigmoidal curve...

    Kava and EBT (food stamps)

In most of the US, kava is not available locally (I wish it were). Mail order is the primary source of kava. There is a garbage "tea" that says it contains kava that can be found in grocery stores, but it is worthless and tastes nasty.

    FKB

Many sarcomas can be tough to treat, other than cutting them out. I had a sick relative that I encouraged to drink tudei and Isa for a couple years as a Hail Mary addition to the chemo. It may have helped, but in the end, it wasn't enough. That is a single anecdote, so definitely not...

    Kava and EBT (food stamps)

I recently handed out food at a homeless encampment, but I am not cool with using welfare money to buy luxuries like kava, cigarettes, alcohol, and lottery tickets. Or cell phones. I used to be semi poor. If you think providing luxuries to poor people helps them, then stay out of the way so...

Anxiety and tension from many strains... Input appreciated !

Fijian kavas don't produce anxiety. Some 243/423 kavas from Vanuatu and Hawaii can produce such effects. Papa Kea and Papa Ele Ele (different chemotypes) also produce such effects for me. I believe it is more than just the major kavalactones producing this effect. Some people complain about...

    FKB

While flavokavains are one of the least desirable compounds found in noble kavas (as well as tudeis) they are also possibly the most anticancer compounds in kava.

I personally don't trust anything coming out of NYC, especially medicine

Might have to downgrade my title

Puking isn't uncommon for me, but I do 2nd, 3rd, 4th.....washes with paint strainers. I extract twice the kavalactones as the fine straining methods, but it comes at a price.

    Disappointed by Nene...

I've tried most of the Hawaiian cultivars, but I think GHK's NeNe was the weakest of them all, and the least interesting for me personally. When he has other cultivars, some of them are great, such as Kumakua, Hanikapi Ai, Pana Ewa, and Mo'i. I can see why some people like Honokane Iki too. I...

Kava Science The physics of kava preparation

Not all macromolecules are suitable for emulsifying. Only amphipathic (hydrophilic and hydrophobic in different regions) ones. But Jean you are correct, that many macromolecules are amphipathic. Egg yolk and milk components can emulsify. It would almost be better to have it in a thick...

Kava Science The physics of kava preparation

I mistyped above. I meant to say as your particle size decreases, your KL uptake increases. As an emulsifier, I long ago hypothesized about using polysorbate 80 (food grade). I would strictly avoid strongly solubilizing surfactants, for the sake of avoiding stomach issues. Lecithin doesn't...

    Shell interval

Shell interval? You're overthinking it. When you finish the first until you feel like drinking the second. Who cares? It's more about when your stomach says, time to stop.

Kava Science The physics of kava preparation

It is known that KLs have affinity to certain carbobydrates, as one example of molecules that can help emulsify KL particles. Since KLs are semipolar, some would directly dissolve into water in a nonsuspended state, possibly in water clathrate structures. But the majority of a strong grog, I...
