5/22/18

ALT (Normal 9 - 46 U/L) Result = 22
AST (Normal 10 - 40 U/L) Result = 23
ALP (Normal 40 - 115 U/L) Result = 71
Bilirubin (Normal 0.2 - 1.2 mg/dL) Result = 0.4

Notes : Daily kava consumption, primarily medium grind. Normal daily amount around 12 Tbsp + or - , for the past few months it was upped to the 14-17 Tbsp range. Primarily Heavy/heavy balanced Vanuatu products. Other substances used daily - K@ 2x/day for pain and daytime anxiety, alcohol ~2-3 drinks per night paired with low dose benzo (xanax) .75-1mg for sleep as needed with doses fluctuating in that range or lower based on how sedating the kava session was, occasional cannabis and prescription pain killers (containing acetaminophen) used for particularly bad pain flare ups.

Past results for comparison:

1/23/17

ALT (Normal 9 - 46 U/L) Result = 32
AST (Normal 10 - 40 U/L) Result = 25
ALP (Normal 40 - 115 U/L) Result = 78
Bilirubin (Normal 0.2 - 1.2 mg/dL) Result = 0.3

4/14/16

ALT (Normal 9 - 46 U/L) Result = 38
AST (Normal 10 - 40 U/L) Result = 26
ALP (Normal 40 - 115 U/L) Result = 69
Bilirubin (Normal 0.2 - 1.2 mg/dL) Result = 0.5

Additional notes : Results seem to be trending in a better direction. No breaks from kava since January 2016. 2016 was also the year I transitioned from primarily using prescription pain killers to K@ for daily pain management. The lack of acetaminophen may have improved the numbers. I also think the continued liver warnings regarding kava (beverage/ground root) use are excessive and counterproductive.

Thank you so much for sharing that with us. With every report we see, the advisory and subsequent restriction of kava are looking like a true knee-jerk reaction.
