Just discovered that a book is being launch on my families Village in Eua, Tonga! I've always heard bits and pieces from my Dad and Grandma on how they ended up at their village in Eua. I cant wait to read this and hear all the collected stories the book has. 1863 wasn't too long ago. Thats only 3-4 generations removed from me.

Does anyone in NZ @Henry know the author? I'd love to talk to him more about what he discovered.

New Goals....return to Ata and plant Kava and do an archeological dig. Hows that sound @Kavasseur
Would be cool to discover family lines of those who were captured and taken to South America.

Thank you @Kavafied for explaining this fascinating history. I found and ordered the book. Your story illustrates that so much significant, unique history is all around us and, if we are lucky, someone comes along to document, archive, and preserve.

I love how we are still rediscovering history. I recall reading about this authors lecture on the matter a year or two ago while he was in the middle of his research. It's amazing how the written accounts of these events were sitting in some NZ archive for ages.
