Kava Science Expanding my home lab...

Actually, there does not appear to be any real standard for chemotype testing. The USP and other methods used by certified labs are approved solely for positive identification of Piper methysticum and determination of total kavalactone percentage. Kavalactones must be present, and constitute no less than 4.5% of dry weight. Some lab reports may include chemotype, but those numbers are incident to the test, not mentioned in the method, and not part of the official results.

I welcome the input of anyone who can disagree with this, but it looks like to me that the type of testing I plan on doing has no certification available, so I can call it whatever I want. Doesn't really matter , the doubters are going to doubt anyway, and that wouldn't change no matter how many letters I had after my name! :D
Well I'm not really up on any of this, but I don't believe you qualify as a "certified" lab. So that's why I'm hesitant about implying that by using the word "Certificate".

My only experience with any of this was when I was in the Air Force. One of my jobs was as a "Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory Specialist" (fancy title huh?:)). There I did work in a certified lab where it was basically a clean room where everyone wore cotton smocks and the room had a negative pressure so that whenever someone came in or out of the room, nothing could get accidentally get sucked inside the room from the exterior.

So since your open to anything what about "Deleted User's Kava Analytics" or "Deleted User's Independent Reviews" or "Independent Kava Analysis", etc......
(Was trying for something funny too, but got nothing at the moment)

you could call it Kava Kuriosity Krusher, but for short we'll just say KKK. That acronym isn't taken already, is it ? :angelic::ricky::

I like these better: "Kava Assays" and "Kava Assements".

Looking good there @Deleted User. Can't wait to see some results. Will the test results on the new equipment mesh with the ones on the colorimeter. Or are are we talking apples and oranges?

Deleted User, I was thinking the other day (I know, its dangerous). I have 2 kava plants but god knows what strain they are. One was supposed to be Moi and the other maybe ornamental but I can't be sure. How much plant material and from which part of the plant would you need to test it. Maybe next spring.

@Deleted User01 There should be a strong correlation between acetone results and chemotype, but this is something that has been more assumed than studied.
Oh, I know what a thimble is but I was always too manly to use one. Assuming you have ever sewn before. (Ouch, Ouch, Dang. Anyone know were the bandaids are?).:banghead:

I made my first test runs last night, looks good so far. The USP method defines the retention times relative to kavain, the other kavalactones should land close to their predicted time. The "Approx RT" column is the factor, "Predicted" column is where the peaks should be, "Recorded" is where they actually landed in my trial runs. Resolution is well within tolerance, my consultants are in agreement. So qualification is established, the next step is some fine tuning on peak shape to allow chemotype determination.

Great stuff Deleted User, do you have any more tests to show us? I just love kava Chemotypes. :D Any update on your efforts?
Aloha nui loa.
