Alright so heres my situation. I'm going to make this very simple. I am in fact in a shitstorm. I work for habitat for humanity here in Tampa Florida. Basically this provides lower income housing for people in serious need with clean background. It's part of my contract in my land surveying career.

Is it right for someone to take away helping those in need for family based events? In my personal opinion I'd rather sacrifice the few for the many who deserve and need it.

I'm put in a situation that basically family is upset because I put these other people above a family that needs no help. What do I do and how can I handle this diplomatically?

Work your way out in circles. You first, your family, and then others. When one is out of balance the rest will suffer. If your family needs you, go. It sounds like you work for HFH and do good work on a very regular basis. They can miss you while you enrich your own life. There will always be people in need. Always.
