Using a tea strainer/filter?

Hey guys, first timer here

I was wondering if anyone has tried straining kava with only a tea filter or metal strainer?
I'm still pretty new to kava since I've only tried a little instant from KWK in the past. but I plan on getting medium grind some day soon.
Maybe something like this would work? -

Tea filters are too big, until you get a proper strainer you can use an old t-shirt, paint strainers, knee high stockings (doubled up). These all work much better. Welcome to KF :)

@Papa Kava I tried a few things similar when I first started out but no joy in the main. I have a metal coffee filter that goes pretty fine but I would only use that to get larger pieces of root out if I had made a mistake with the main strain. Best bet is through a knee high stocking to get rid of the bulk of the material and then through a finer strainer to remove the coarser sediment which may cause stomach issues.

Thanks for the suggestions guys
I went ahead and ordered a muslin bag from Kalm with Kava and one of their coconut shells to celebrate buying
my first order of medium grind kava from GHK, that I'm eagerly awaiting to arive!
I'll probably make a review or two on it

I always used to use a fine strainer and a six inch piece of 1" dowel (broomstick) that I sanded the ends round on to press it in the strainer.
* The dowel was actually made as a mini-pizza dough roller for making pizza crust in deep dish pans

I figured a little extra fiber in my diet couldn't hurt - was that a mistake?

There is no problem with it as long as your stomach can handle it. Microgrind is basically eating the whole root non extracted, although GHK removes the makas before grinding. There are others who somehow stomach "toss and wash" which is just putting a wad of medium grind in your mouth and washing it down with liquid. There is anecdotal evidence that the more root material you ingest the more likely you are to have issues with deromopathy, but I have not seen any reliable scientific data on that. If you can handle the taste and the consistency go for it - I myself prefer not to have my kava taste like a mouthful of sawdust...
