So what would the makas be or feel like when I'm chewing root?
These pictures should help you to understand what your chewing and what the makas is.
The first picture is of the fresh undried lateral kava root.---

The next picture is the same root but it has been cleaned and the outer bark removed.---

The next picture is showing the end of the lateral root, notice the star pattern, this star is created by the makas.----

In this next picture you can see me holding the makas, this is what makes the star pattern in the end of the lateral root.---

The last picture shows all the good stuff with a few of the makas at the bottom of the picture, they are long and flat, easy to take out when I process the wet root, before I dry it so I can micronize it..----

The stuff in between the makas is the starchy goodness of the kava, it does have a lot of kavalactones in it but the inner bark or the cambium layer has more kavalactones. So it is the star part of the root that is the makas, the rest is all good stuff. (y)
Let me know if you have any other questions, aloha.

It is known that the Kavalactones DHM and DHK aggravate Dermopathy. Tudie Kavas have an abundance of those Kavalactones. The Hawaiians bred their Kavas for a higher incidence of the kavaiin Kavalactone which is more euphoric and heady. Kavas high in Kavain are less likely to give you Dermopathy, Nausea, and Kava Hangovers. The more I think about it, any Kava described has Heavy does have more DHM and DHK and thus the potential for bad side effects. Tudie just has a lopsided amount of DHM and DHK.

Blilndy 107, you can put the kava bag (with the Kava) into a Zip Lock Bag. Been there and done that. Sometimes I use a paper clip to seal the bag. But if you drink it as fast as you described here, then freshness will never be a problem. :D

@Gourmet Hawaiian Kava perfectly explained. Thank you much. I had no idea it had the star pattern that looks cool. The pictures put everything together for me, thank you.

@Deleted User01 actually I want to try and make this bag last a little longer. Getting expensive to stay rooted! Maybe I'll invest in some storage system. Then I can label my kava like a spice rack!

Blindy107. I hear ya on the cost. When I do micro or instant anymore, I do a teaspoon at a time so I can get the most out of the effects. Small doses every 30 minutes and stop when you feel good.

Oh Chris, should I be washing this prior to chewing? Probably a dumb question but I haven't been doing it.

Mu assume you are not pooping in your fields like those South American strawberry farmers? :shifty:

That's a good idea. I have just been doing full doses in one drink. Haha I will try that thanks!

You can wash them if you want but I did that already, then they were dried and packaged. I promise no poo poo in my kava :wtf:, just pure 100% compost from things other than poo. (y)
I bet that old poo stuff would really make the kava taste bad.
Aloha.

Hahaha I'm sure it would! Well thanks again for all the input man. Greatly appreciated.

@Gourmet Hawaiian Kava Just to clarify Chris, should i be trying to avoid swallowing any part of the plant during chewing? The Makas seem to stay intact and pretty solid when chewing so they seem easy to avoid but the pulpiness is a different story. Unless i have my parts mixed up, are the makas softer or harder than the other portion?

maybe i should post pics of my post chewed (kinda gross but may be helpful!)

While your chewing the kava you can take out the makas if you want to, it will not hurt you because your not swallowing it and like you said they stay together pretty good because they are the hardest part of the kava so it is very easy to take it out after you start chewing it for a bit.
Aloha.

Ok cool. So rest is ok to swallow and should not effect my dermo negatively? I only ask because it tastes Sooo good. I find it far more tolerable than root powder grog. No idea why.

Kava Curious
Wow, I just got mine in and immediately popped a piece into my mouth. I guess I'm a lightweight or there's a lot more sublingual absorbtion going on because the rush of euphoria was actually pretty intense and I had eaten a big sandwich and an apple maybe, maybe, 45 minutes prior. The effects, almost all heady*, are still going strong an hour later and I only chewed it for 10 minutes. This little inch+ piece of root gave me the same kind of casual daytime kava session I expect out of any other form of preparation. I will be buying a lot more of these.

*I haven't tried Moi yet in any other form, but this was pretty much what I was expecting.

Yeah I like more than I thought I would. Usually pop a few twigs in when I get to work. Chew and remove shakas, I mean makas, for about 30-45 minutes. Good numbing and euphoria for me as well. Not a full on shelled experience but pretty stout.
