@kavakavakrunk To clarify, I've only had one amazing experience with kava. The others were often either undesirable or short lived effects for a few minutes. I actually did try morning kava to make sure my stomach was empty. I normally do 6-8 hours after eating though. Unfortunately I didn't have much better results quality of effects wise because I was using poor kava or my prep methods were bad. Also, morning is not really when I want to drink kava, anyone than I'd want to drink wine first thing in the morning.

I've got my hands on good kava now I believe, but my prep method is still lacking. I'm not clear on the best easy effort way with high kavalactone extraction.

What I just did was this:

1.Hot tap water 1 cup into drink blender
2. 1 TBSP micro moi from gourmet hawaiian kava
3. 4 minutes in drink blender
4. Pour over over t-shirt over large bowl
5. Slowly squeeze the big water ball with a stream coming out the bottom
6. When the water is almost gone if I keep sneezing the kava will start to squish through whatever cloth I'm using. Even fine weave cloth.
7. Stop squeezing so I don't get any kava mush in the bowl
8. Drink the bowl.
9. Wait 15-30 minutes to see if there are any effects

I'm also experimenting with using schmaltz as a fat extractor. I'm also thinking of getting some fine wire mesh trainer and putting the kava through that before putting it through the cloth.

if it's micronized you can just stir it into some water and drink it. especially if it's from GHK because he removes the makas. all the other preparation steps you are taking are for use with medium grind powder. micro is about as easy as it gets; your stomach does the extracting

@tomkrat You don't drink the kava powder. I'm trying to squeeze the Kava through the t-shirt or other cloth and I get most of the water out, but eventually the kava starts squishing though. Is that normal? I'm basically doing the simple method here, but I'm experimenting with adding chicken fat: http://www.kavaforums.com/forum/wiki/infraredz-simple-method/

I can't believe how hard it is to find good prep information. Also, the prep method links in the kavapedia are all broken.

yes, with micronized kava, i do drink the powder. Especially if it's from GHK because he removes the bits that cause stomach discomfort

A few comments:
- 1 tbsp is not a very large amount, you might need more
- Most people don't need to strain micronized. It's not the same as regular kava powder; it has a much smaller particle size. It is intended to just be mixed in water and drunk. If it feels a little gritty, that is normal. An unfortunate few, like me, have stomach problems with micro. For us straining micro is necessary.
- A t-shirt is not a very good strainer--it will probably remove too much. A nylon stocking, nut-milk bag, or Fijian strainer would work better.
- Schmaltz (chicken fat) sounds gross. I don't know if it will actually help.
- If you strain, yes, almost all of the kava should pass through the strainer, otherwise your brew will be very weak
