What's new

1st time with root powder

My shipments of fu'u and stone arrived yesterday. I mixed 4 large tbsp stone with 2 cups of warm water and about 3 cups of coconut milk, then let soak about 2hrs 20mins while we went disc golfing. Came back, ate 1 large red grapefruit and drank about 3 cups of strained liquid over a 1-1 1/2hr period. last meal happened around lunch. Friend drinks other portion. Rapid onset, feelings of euphoria, sensory sensitivity, and having to relieve myself, about 4-5 times in a 3 hr period. Very uncomfortable in the guts, and I blame the grapefruit. I think the synergy was too much. Later tried some fu'u, unstrained, much less somatic, pleasant head space. Slept well with melatonin. I let 2 tbsp fu'u soak w/ 2 tbsp stone in 6 cups of water overnight, and Im in the process of consuming it now. So far, so good, euphoria and relaxation with increased sensitivity to cold. I forgot to mention that this stuff works wonders on my spinal arthritis. Much thanks to n@h, bkh and the forum. Any comments or questions are very welcome.

It's good you got an effect your first try. Many people are very disapointed their first time. Stone and fu'u are great first choices. Fu'u is high kavain and low DHM and stone is high DHM and pretty much high in everything else as well. I'm not sure about the the grapefruit idea. I know there are compounds in grapefruit that inhibit certain liver enzymes that hydrolize certain compounds and I'm not sure if thats a good idea with kava. Kava has special compounds that are part of the root that you take in with the kavalactones when you drink that aid your liver in metabolizing the kavalactones. The reason why alcohol based extracts are bad is because these alkaloids are not alcohol soluble and it over taxes the liver trying to metabolize the lactones without these compounds. Grapefruit works well for things like K@ and certain other opioids and benzos that are not pro-drugs and are not hydrolized into other compounds, but I wouldn't suggest doing it with kava. Just drink it on an empty stomach and other than that your doing everything right!

Sounds like you're on your way! My first try wasn't nearly this well, however my first try was with kona, god awful weak stuff that is.

i've got a bag of Kona and i'm not thrilled either...by the sounds of it, most kava enthusiasts let the power "soak" for a while...you think this helps?

I do think it helps. I soak my kava all day and squeeze it at night. It softens up the fibers so that it's easier to press out all of the good stuff. It's less beneficial when you have a really fine grind like Fu'u but I would still recommend it.

Don't let the crappyness of kona steer you away from kava. I imagine alot of people heard about kava from one person or another and googled it and saw kona was the first in every possible search. Even if you are looking for a reputable vendor like nakamal at home, if you type that into google kona will come up with "nakamal at home with kona kava". To say kona is sub par is a major understatement. Seeing how your new and need to get through your reverse tolerance really any kava will do and milder ones are more advisable. Keep in mind that for about your first month you won't be blown away and will get minimal if any effects. Just do up a few tablespoons a day for around a month and in the meantime order from a good vendor like; bula kava house, paradise kava, nakamal at home, or kava by rex. Also check of the kava kava candies as they are a great way to get kavalactones in your body without any work, great for n00bs and seasoned drinkers alike.

Whenever I tell someone about kava, I always tell them if they buy it, don't buy it from kona kava! And then I kindly refer them to BKH or KBR
