A philosophical subforum. Maybe someday?

I don't know about you guys but when I drink kava I get into very deep thought. And while my kava buddy is a very good person to share these with, I find myself craving to share my new idea birthed from krunkdom to fellow kava drinkers. So maybe someday the forum could have a philosophical sub forum perhaps? Some place where ideas can be freely and openly discussed without everyone fighting for there side. On any other forum I think this wouldn't work because everybody defends their opinion so hard. But I think that here among our fellow kavasseurs we realize that ideas are just simply ideas. So what do you guys think? Yay or nay?

As long as it's not politics...
I could even tolerate religious philosophy but I won't touch anything politics with a 10 foot pole if I can void it.

I am the same way man. It's probably on account of all my family being very absorbed in politics and always watching the news. I try to just shut it out as best I can

I love philosophy, and like the idea. But I think a general "off topic" forum would be better. Then we'd have other options as well.

Depending on the definition of philosophical. If it's more to discuss things like existential responsibility and phenomenological investigation and such then I'm all for it. One thing that I have always loved about this place is that trending news stories that stir controversy that lead to bitterly divisive arguments and invite trolls are not spoken of here. During this whole blasted election that tore a wedge down an already divided and volatile nation not once did we drag arguments and debates into here. That is why I like it so much here. I think that if we get into politics and such it will open the door to division and instead of sharing ideas about kava, we will be bantering at each other or ganging up on the person who doesn't agree with the general consensus.

The thing is, the five branches of philosophy (metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics, art) aren't neat little boxes. If I create a Philosophy subforum, I create a place where people can jump onto a political high-horse.

I'd want to make it a rule that no one can post without downing at least two shells, and no one can post disagreements without downing at least three, to make sure that we have enough Calm Detachment between the person an the position. This is much easier said than done.

I did have the pleasure of being drawn into a political discussion yesterday. Because of how krunk I was, and because I am still viewed as an outsider (a.k.a. "Phil the Greek") by Her Royal Majesty's family, I didn't go into what I realized during the hour-long tirade about gun ownership rights - that the Harry Potter series is about gun ownership rights, and in fact in The Prisoner of Azkaban J. K. Rowling goes so far as to refer to a gun as "a sort of muggle wand." Since kava does open up our minds to as my distant relationship Prince Hamlet referred to as "more things in heaven and earth."

Here's what I suggest. When I asked Vesuvio Cat to create a Medicinal Use of Kava forum, it was because it kept coming up in the miscellaneous forum over and over again. In fact, I believe the most recent Xanax thread was created in this forum although the Medicinal use exists.

If anyone wants to go off onto a philosophical tangent, then go for it. If it turns out to be popular and polite, I have no problems creating a subforum. If it turns to be a bloody mess, I'll clean it up and request that people keep their philosophies to themselves.

Yeah...as an American I'd rather not be forced to defend my 2nd Amendment right here of all places. I'll just pack up my XD-45 and scootch waaaaay over. *poly-ticks off*

Oh gawd, just the though makes me barf a little.

On a brighter note....Prince Philip.... Nice hat.

Thank you. The hat has an IV that injects kavalactones directly into my brain. I can't feel my teeth, and my lips are numb, and my hands look like someone gave me Godzilla gloves. I tried to eat something, but it just made me more nauseated. I should take the hat off, but I feel so good.

I'd love to read through a philosophical sub forum, absolutely, however you would not see me posting in there one bit. People have a tendency to piss me off with their opinions and ideologies and all that, crap, I end up debating.

I like you guys, and and I love this forum, I wouldn't want to ruin that. lol.

If everyone thinks it would work out with conflicting ideas, opinions and emotions, I think it would be absolutely awesome. The philosophy forums that I occasionally contribute to are generally comprised of stuck-up, narrow-minded, pissy folks who could benefit from a few shells. I think this community is cool enough to be able to separate position from person, like the Prince said would be necessary to keep the vibe we have now.

Aristotle once said the mark of a well educated mind is being able to entertain an idea without accepting it.
That is a great concept. Though like many other things that make quite allot of sense and then when they are tested in living scenarios the result seems to be far different. The difficulty with such a broad category such as philosophy is that encompasses everything. Even if we attempt to leave politics out of it, every single conservation about society and world views will come back to it. The same applies to religion, as it has a connection to politics and can be connected with every possible topic. While it would great to be able to discuss these topics in a rational setting, these subjects themselves are nearly impossible to discuss rationally.
Also keep in mind that we have done a great job in having a community based around a single concept with a groups of people from various backgrounds coming together to respectfully discuss kava related issues. The same way that I wouldn't want to bring the "harm reduction" crowd in here by opening up discussion to other mood altering substances, I especially wouldn't want the philosophical/political/religious crowd in here as well once we open that flood gate. Even if we got good ethical and positive discussions going it would be sending smoke signals into the air to the troll elite that we're ready for trolling. You know those cheap sadists cruise the net looking for discussions to jump into and ruin everything. I'm sure occasionally they look in here and see that the discussions aren't troll worthy but once we start going into social issues , they'll send signals to their buddies and this place will be ruined.
Basically I love the place the way it is and every time that there is a change it could upset the balance. It wouldn't take much for me to leave and never return. Also once we got into social issues it would simply draw wedges between us. Instead of all being rootheads we would be drawn into endless divisions. I'm in the same boat as kavalover, if this subforum pops I won't ever post in it. In fact I likely wouldn't read it as I would be want to post but would have to fight the urge on principle.

I am going to operate on the assumption, at least for now, that newcomers might better pick up the "vibe" of the Kava Lounge's culture by being exposed to our memes, which are in every post as an undertext, but can come to the foreground in a kava philosophical subforum.

While I was initially afraid of this turning into Kantians and Keynesians flaming each other, perhaps I have underestimated our ability to deidentify from our ideas and not see attacks on our memes as attacks on our personhood.

Please, prove me right.
