About Kava extract

Hi, I just received my CO2 Kava Extract and I was wondering :

1) Why putting it under the tongue (something I always struggle with no matter what substance it's about) rather than on the tongue ?

2) Why is it recommended not to exceed 3g a day, sinse it's common to have much more kavalactones a day in the form of powder ?

3) Do you guys combine taking powder and extract in the same day ?

1)

Putting it under your tongue or otherwise known as sublingual usage allows it to absorb through the tissue quickly and enter the vein that runs the underside of your tongue. Putting it on your tongue would not allow it to reach a vein nearly as quickly and the onset would be much slower. The blood vessals under your tongue are very close to the surface and have a very high rate of absorbtion and allowing the kavalactones to enter the bloodstream.

2)

I'd say this is more a factor of suppliers covering their asses to the FDA. The FDA has made some absurd reccomendation to not exceed 325mg of kavalactones in a day. That being suppliers must reccomend dosages not exceeeding that quanity of kavalactones. I think the 325mgs is a joke, I typically make 50-100 gram batches of kava root at a time. Considering that kava is 10-20 kavalactones and you extract about about 50% than you I figure that around 75mgs of kavalactones is contained on average per each gram of powder I use, then coming to the conclusion that I drink around 3.75-7.5 grams of pure kavalactones each sitting.

3)

I've found that it helps to boost the effects to combine different kava products. Like taking the kava candies while preparing a batch or fortifying shells with a spoonfull of instant. It spikes the kavalactones in the bloodstream as well as diversifies the portfolio of various kavalactones you get.

Thanks mate, after reading your reply I came across that article which kinda expands on your explanation concerning what I now know is called sublingual delivery. As for the 325mg recommendation, I'm not surprised to hear that it's FDA related and that it has little basis.

new2kava said it well.

I'd like to add that in the half decade of developing our extracts, we tried nearly everything.

Pills with extract have to withstand the neutralization effect of stomach acids, a format in which a lot more kava is needed to accomplish the same goal.

We tried making tinctures but the clinical studies determined their harmful effect pretty early on (Thanks to the awesome people at U Minnesota and other Kava leaders and researchers who helped guide us) and left us only one choice. Going Solvent Free.

Sub lingual application of a highly available kava extract (our patent pending process) is pretty much the best way to introduce the kavalactones into the blood stream as fast as possible, bypassing the gastro intestinal tract.

Result is a fast acting and highly effective product with high purity levels.

As for taking it along with other forms of kava, I like to drink fresh kava beverage and keep some extract handy for intervals between shells.

All the best!

I'll combine extract/instant and root powder all the time. That is part of the fun. Have a little extract while your making a bowl or after the bowl is done. Best time for extract (in my humble opinion-and there are so many good times for extract) is after a big meal. You still get the kava sensation which you won't if your drinking root potion.

So you find that extracts still work after meals? I find that the effectiveness of the root mixes are greatly diminished if I've eaten. That's good to know.

Yep, they work great after a big meal.  It is not the same buzz as downing a bunch o shells on an empty stomach but you get that warm glow that we all know and love.

so if you're scooping this stuff out of the jar, how do you know how much is the FDA's 325mgs?

pep, there are instructions sent with each order. 30 and 60g jars also have them printed on the label.

A gram is about a pea size really.

Hi Adil, I have a different sort of question regarding extracts. I know they taste great on their own, but I've been wondering if you have any thoughts on dissolving your extract in some juice/smoothie? Have you ever tried adding it to any beverage? Any word of advice?

Only one flavor seems to work quite well.

Recipe:

Half Tea spoon Honey Lemon Kava Extract

Tablespoon Honey

12oz. water

Few lemon slices

Super tiny pinch of salt

Shake it in a drink mixer with a few ice cubes and enjoy.

Any consensus amongst you extract veterans about how long extract should be left under the tongue for dissolving?  I'm assuming there's some point of diminishing returns in there where you just gotta swallow it down.

Oh, and five minutes of dissolving some of my newly-arrived Vanilla & Coconut extract and I'm doing quite nicely, by the way.  Thanks again Adil.

thanks, Adil! It seems like simply dissolving the extract in the larger quantities of the same ingredients that are used in its production and hence sounds quite logical. cheers!

Dan, I usually leave the extract under my tongue for about 10 minutes, or at least until it completely dissolves.

So i got some on the way, but was wondering if it still makes your skin dry and is still a diuretic like when I pound bowls...I'm getting excited for it to arrive as it seems to be easy and effective.

The only problem is that if it works that great, i could be spending A LOT of $$ (smiley: smokin)

I put a pea size blob of extract under my tongue and after 5 minutes it's just gone ! I'm surprised you have to swallow it. Maybe you put much more than this quantity ?

Folks, the idea is to allow the saliva to mix with it (not collect saliva+extract under your tongue)
Numbers like 5 minutes or 10 minutes are quite a lot, unless they work for you.
Talking about 5-20 seconds here. Let the saliva mix and your body knows what to do next. I feel a tingly sensation under my tongue, like it's a sign a doorway to the bloodstream opened. Subtle but it's there.
