I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher. I just use hot water to rinse it off usually, sometimes I will hand wash it with dish soap. Even after leaving residue in it overnight it is still very easy to rinse off.

As to multiple washes it depends on the kava. With Squanch I can get two sometimes three washes out of a ball. Many times I will do the first wash, then refill it and shake again and then empty the ball and refill it with more root to get an even stronger 2nd batch.
I don't know why this is but my second wash of Squanch is always better than the first. And the first one is great, of course, but the second is better. As long as I add just a little more root, about 1/4 the quantity of what was in the first wash.

I've had many kavas now where the second wash as as good as the first, but Squanch is the only one I've had where the second wash is actually better. IMO, ymmv, standard disclaimers apply,.....

I've had a couple of learning experiences with the Aluball as well. I used to just rinse it out, and I started to notice as mentioned in another post that the kava wasn't getting that wet. I wash the ball with dish soap now after each set of 2 Kava washes that I do. I also tried to do a wash in coconut milk once and that wouldn't even make it through the screen. The Kava stayed totally dry, so I found it's water only. Coconut water has worked for me in the past and helped with the taste, if it's for someone still new to it. I've grown to enjoy the taste now.

I've been using coconut milk (carton for drinking, not canned for cooking) in my AluBall with good results. Helps with the flavor and texture and the fat hopefully helps with absorption.
