Hello,

I gave a lot of my Kava to a student who is  shortly before her examination. Now I am running out of stock for my own use.

Several orders (Fu'u, Nene, Borogu, Fiji Waka, Tongan Pride) are on its way, but sometimes it takes more than three weeks.

Is anybody willing to sell me 250 or 500g Kava powder? If so, please contact me in english or german: [email protected]

Hope someone that does sees this

Hi - i'm new here and am from central europe, the very land of the 'spiked helmet' :)

Been searching for quite a while including the sites of "zoll" and "bfarm" and didn't come to any clear conclusion - only that it seems it might be very possibly prohibited to import preparations from kava. No clue on pure kava itself ...

Can anybody provide with information about ordering kava to germany, regarding legal status and how-to's (regarding customs)?

Is it possible to search your government website and find out about what are controlled versus uncontrolled items and import policies? I'd personally recommend calling your custums department and making direct inquiries. Just because somebody on a forum claims something is okay doesn't have any bearing on whether government oragnizations will agree. If your worried about legality and custums I'd stauchly advocate looking for answers from the government as opposed to forums. The US has tons of .gov pages where every substance thats controlled or has import restrictions is listed, I imagine Germany has similar sites and I can almost guarentee they have a number to call and get direct answers from a person. It's far better to get a solid answer from the authorities than to get an educated guess on a forum as legal complications can arise if laws are broken.

Hi there - thanks for your reply, of course you - both - are right!

I've been through several gov'sites, especially www.zoll.de and www.bfarm.de, but the only thing i could find was that it was prohibited in 2002 (?) to sell any kava-"preparations", which i consider something different from kava powder.

All i know is, that it's not downright illegal, but that "they" can confiscate the kava and let you pay a surcharge for it when they decide to handle it as medication, for human consumption or what ever may the "trigger word" be :/

So i thought the best thing to get would be to hear about possible experiences of others ...

So, as the legal situation is completely unclear, which turns out rather familiar here when looking for example at the handling of hemp. It seems it's completely left to the disposal of the authorities (customs, in this case) how to handle it. I think here they crossed a line, and it seems more and more like "everything that's not explicitly allowed is forbidden", so i won't care anymore for their stupidity and take my right of self-determination into my own hands as long as it does not get me into serious trouble. On the other hand i'm not that rich that i can afford too many of my orders confiscated :)

ps.: sorry for my bad english

I can't guarantee the validity my findings, but here's some stuff I dug up online that may help out or confuse you even more.  (smiley: smile)
From http://www.konakavafarm.com/blog/?p=37
"After it was discovered that the findings were false, that liver toxicity happens from Kava only when the widely-known poisonous leaves are used instead of the extremely safe roots, Germany moved to lift its ban in 2007 after almost everyone else in the world did.Since then, we’ve been shipping a LARGE amount of Kava orders to Germany without any trouble since."From http://cms.herbalgram.org...4April/kavaproposal.html"It began in 2001, when there were 8 cases of severe liver toxicity in Switzerland, said Dr. Schmidt. “BfArM [informed] the press about the dangers of kava, and a multitude of very poorly documented case reports [flowed] in.” BfArM then claimed that kava extracts registered in Germany had never been shown to be efficacious. Based on this purported lack of efficacy and the reported adverse reactions, BfArM banned the herb in 2002. The 9 years since the ban, said Dr. Schmidt, have consisted of BfArM’s issuing ambiguous requirements for data, rejecting proposals, and canceling meetings—the most recent of which was set to take place in April of 2011 but was recently canceled by BfArM. Though BfArM repealed its ban on kava products in 2005, all kava registrations have been inactivated indefinitely until further notice.9  "

Would have totally helped you out if we were closer. Germany is such an interesting country where kava is concerned. Besides being the single LARGEST imported of Kava in the 90's, it also boasts having done the most comprehensive research on kava (Marcus Schmidt's work is a good example. I believe you quoted him above KarmaG)

And the largest importer, Merck Pharma, bought 2 entire containers of kava POWDER EVERY MONTH back then. Imagine, POWDER! not bulky pulp, entire plants etc.

I know this because one of my dear friend was their supplier and the largest grower of Hawaiian Kava back then with 80 acres of planted kava.

Like it or not, Germany and Kava are linked forever.
