What's new

anyone else add fresh mint to their grog?

A new thing I'm trying.  A few fresh mint leaves blended in prior to straining really is pretty nice; doesn't add much flavor but seems effective in mitigating some of the dreaded shudder.

I've experimented with several different added ingredients over the last few years, but everything else I've tried - including various soy and almond milks - has prolonged and/or merely altered the essential grossness of the kava drinking experience.

Oddly, anything orange seems to help as well with the flavor.

Ive tried orange sherbert, oddly enough taste pretty good.

Agreed. If I find it particularly hard to drink for some reason, a splash or two of orange juice really helps.

Great ideas!

Personally like straight Kava, ( super chilled helps with the taste) followed up by VERY quickly with a piece of fruit before that bitter taste can creep into my palate.

My current method is to chug the kava while pinching my nose, then drink some water and, holding it in my mouth, letting my nose go. This really reduces the strong taste of the kava, although there's still a nasty aftertaste.
