Any recommendations right now, minus what GHK has? I already have tried everything from GHK, which is obviously good. At this point I'm really feeling the void from KWK pouni ono's absence lol. I need kava that I can drink and focus and ideally one with a good motivational effect. too. Pouni is the best example I've seen from my recollection. I've tried more strains than many here but there are some vendors that I haven't tried out and some strains from the top vendors I haven't bought, like KWK borogu, or the current batch of boronguru. I am going through a very overwhelming time right now and I've been really isolated. I'm keeping my head up but the demanding work lifestyle combined with being far away from my loved ones for the short term just has me grasping for something to keep me going without any deep connection/bonding with other human beings. thanks

I miss Pouni Ono too. I'll be trying two new Tongans for me from BKH tomorrow, I'll let you know how they are. Eua and Kula.

Kavafied will have a small batch of Tongan coming out any day now.
Oh yeah.. I haven't bought kava from them before other then the fijian root hairs a while back. I never tried the sureme because I heard it was really heavy. I'll be keeping an eye out for the new one.

I have actually started drinking Supreme on a daily basis. I don't find it too heavy, it's actually fairly balanced. It gives a nice uplifting feeling and because of the potency I find myself drinking much less during the day. It doesn't get real heavy until you overdo it but if you make a weak grog and space your shells it's real cost effective

I liked Ozia's 24 wave. I don't take kava for depression so I can't say if it's particularly effective for that. I thought it was very relaxing and pretty uplifting. It might be a little too heavy to use as a daytime kava though

Of what i've had. It was easily in the the top for just a just fun awsome Kava.

I tried two Lawena's one left me in a weird place where I felt just...off. The other I tried again this morning after chilling it and just chugging it. And I think I have no tastebuds left. But it was definatly Pretty good for getting the day going. In case I was needed for some Subsitute Teaching.

FUU I had a bunch after it was recomended here. Judd(for give me if I mis spelled that) nailed it: just fun. For me a just fun warm gigly time with friends and then with my wonderful SO.

I had Tungan Pride twice. Both times hit the spot for uplifting energizing mood lifting. Motivating funsies.

Hope that helps ^_^

Interesting, what are some other strains you'd compare it to in terms of heaviness? thanks
Closest thing I can compare it to is a Borogu. Similar feeling but the feeling can be reached with much less powder. Supreme is a little bit more uplifting though

I enjoyed the Kava Supreme. It was a strong kava for me - and it's rare for me to find a kava that is effective in low doses. I found it to be balanced leaning toward heavy, but the kind of heavy where your limbs are slightly weighted down the morning after. It was nothing that kept me wanting to sleep, just a nice melty feeling.

It wasn't the cleanest feeling kava, but I pretty much stick to Hawaiian kavas and those are always very clean to me.

It's my opinion that headier kavas are good for depression and heavier for anxiety.
When it comes to KWK I believe the Fiji loa waka is good for depression and I think the Fiji vula waka for anxiety, while being able to focus (not too heavy).

I am going to go out on a limb here and say I am not sure kava is good for curing all types of depression. If your minor depression is caused by sleep deprivation, anxiety, being overstressed, social anxiety, then I think it can help some of those symptoms and make you less depressed. However, there is some depression that is so all consuming and overpowering - and doesn't have an external source. I am not yet convinced that kava can help with that type. I myself have not experienced this deep depression but I have been close to many that have. What took me a long time to understand is that it is a deep chemical imbalance -with no external cause. People will say "why would Jen be depressed she has everything nice car, nice house, easy job..." not realizing again that that type of depression is just not something you "snap out of" because you realize your life is better than 99.9% of the human population.

Back to your question. Outside of GHK's line up I found the Tongans from BKH to be very uplifting. Had me whistling a tune while I toiled away doing the daily grind of keeping 4 young'ins in-line.

I know nothing about kava treating a depressive episode. I do think it can prevent depression in some people some times, but that's something hard to "prove" because of course success is defined negatively, something didn't happen as a result of what you did, but there is no way to prove that it would have happened had you not. And of course, you can't really double-blind that. All you can do is have people who have recurring episodes of depression try regular kava drinking and then see if they go longer than usual without a depressive episode. There is still, of course, no proof that if they drink kava for 40 years without another depressive episode in their lives that kava had any effect at all. OTOH, whatever works works, as long as there are no negative side effects.

IAE, the only thing we could probably be certain of is that if kava can prevent some depressive episodes in some people there is no certainty that it could prevent all episodes in all people. The percentage, I would guess, and this is being optimistic, would be in the nature of 30 - 40% success rate (numbers I admittedly just literally pulled right out of my butt), still good enough to be worth a try, but not a panacea.

I know nothing about kava as treatment for an active episode of depression but am eager to learn all I can about that, even if it's only anecdotal. I confess I am doubtful that there's much hope in that.

At this time I don't have to deal with any extreme or purely chemical depression. If I did I would not be able to make it this far without quitting the ordeal I am in with all it's pressures and expectations. It is more like I have been dealing with periodic episodes of anxiety and depression for most of my life and the lack of personal relationship opportunities for fulfillment and overwhelming head banging on wall workload for the last few months, both during the day and after work + weekends is sometimes more than I feel like I can handle without lots of support from loved ones, but of course I am hundreds of miles away from those people right now. I spend a lot of my free time on the phone with them but when it comes down to it I am alone with my work too often, so I need to be able to stay motivated and keep a smile on my face, especially for the parts that require lots and lots of repetitive dull work. I'm the kind of person that needs close relationships to feel fulfilled, and of course being away from my other half is a big part of it. I will be through with it in 1 more month and return to my friends and family but each day feels like a week sometimes.

maybe WOW at lower doses...WOW almost reminds me of Kava Supreme...WOW seems more europhic...however WOW could be heavier than Kava Supreme. Kava Supreme I can do on weekdays.

I am too new to kava to give you any useful advice, but I just wanted to reach out and give you a cyber hug. I'm sorry you're going through such an overwhelming time. I have a long history with depression and I know how much it sucks. You're definitely not alone. I hope things get better for you soon and that one of the many knowledgeable people here can give you a good recommendation that will help see you through. Take care! Bula!
