BKH Boroguru Kava Review

I really like the packaging it comes in. It comes out of the shipping box looking like something that could hold it's own sitting next to some sevruga caviar. Really it looks good.

When I cracked open the bag and took my first whiff I immediately recognized that classic Vanuatu Kava smell. But there was something extra...a slight...peppermint smell. It's nice.

I made me a bowl with about 2 tbsp of root in about 2 cups of water. Actually I eyeballed it so it was probably a little less than 2 cups. I worked this root by hand for about 20  minutes and I could still feel the oil and resins oozing out of the root. I kept squeezing and kneading until the root stopped leaching kava oils and resins into the water. It took a while, seriously this root is loaded. If I had to guess I would say I was squeezing and kneading for at least 40 minutes as much as I could with a rest for my hands every now and then.

It started out really light but as I squeezed it got thicker and darker and slick. The description on BKH is spot on, it's got a very mild taste. It's quite balanced between earthy and slight peppermint.  The effects on the mind and body is very nice. It hit me outrageously fast. "Instant" is putting it lightly. First it felt like the gravity was turned up ever so slightly, then my arms and legs melted into my chair and pulled the rest of me down into it. Then I felt a warm relaxing feeling spread out across my shoulder blades and down my  back. After that this sense of mental clarity and focus hit me. I was utterly relaxed yet felt so alert.

This is by far the best kava I've had...ever!
It's not a kava I would drink to help me sleep better but it's still very nice to have around and have it around I will.

Hi, Vekta. Well, if that doesn't sell a bunch of this kava, I don't know what will! That is an excellent review. It really seems like Bula Kava House has top-notch stuff. Based on your review, this is the one that I will try next. I have fallen completely in love with their Fu'u which is in the top two kava varieties that I have ever had, and it might even be the best. However, I can no longer get the other one, so it's a moot point. Speaking of which, if you've ever had Solomon Island kava, how does this one compare? Now I'm excited to try Boroguru to see if it ranks up there. One of the great things about Kava is that there always seem to be new types to try.

Another thing that I found to be interesting is the amount of time you worked the kava in water. I think that the most I ever squeeze it is for around ten minutes. Is there really benefit to squeezing it for twenty or more minutes, or is it entirely dependent on the variety? Some types feel rather sludgy when you work them, and others feel "cleaner", so maybe that is one of the differences that tells you how long to work it?

Most kava that I have prepared (all by hand) will stop feeling slick after about 10-15 minutes, 20 minutes max. BHK Boroguru just kept putting out endlessly. The more you squeeze and knead the kava the more fine particulate kava dust gets in the water.  Even after it was done leaching all the fine kava dust out, the oils were still oozing out of this root. It was unreal. I was surprised since Boroguru doesn't have a very fine grind. I didn't expect it to feel so slick but it just put out so much oil. I'm hoping someone will get some and try it out to. Maybe I got a fluke batch but if that's the case this is one hell of a fluke.
I'd be the wrong person to ask how it compares to Solomon Island. I'm one of the few that doesn't care for Solomon Island that much. Since you're asking me though I'm going to say that it blows it completely off the face of the Earth.

Thanks for the great review, Vekta. And to everyone else: No, Vekta is not a paid actor, lol.

Boroguru is a pretty special kava out of Vanuatu that I have seen sold no where else. On top of that, our Vanuatu supplier is absolutely amazing and always provides the best, freshest root no matter the strain.

We at Bula Kava House aim to be the "go-to" for kava drinkers. We are making this a reality by taking care of the people who make this possible. It should be a given that when you order you will get the highest quality root out there at a lower price than other vendors. When you the customer sees our packaging we want it to stand out as a step above what has been done before; the best kava should have the best packaging. Of course, as many of you have experienced, we do everything we can to make sure you receive your shipment super fast by using expedited shipping services.

The numerous excellent reviews we've gotten here and elsewhere are appreciated and helpful, so please keep them coming. To be honest though, I'm not one bit surprised when I see one because I know that what we offer is top notch. We wouldn't have it any other way.

I hope everyone had an excellent holiday. Bula!

Looking forward to receiving my order!  Can't imagine kava still being oily after kneading for 10-15 minutes.  Must be some awesome stuff!

I got 2.2 pounds delivered today, so you know I had to prepare some! I used 2 cups of water and 1/2 tsp of soy lecithin, and I worked 1/4 cup twice, so 1/2 cup total. I have found that it's easier for me to more fully work a quarter cup at a time. It was pretty easy to drink, so I consumed the whole preparation in two tries - about a cup and a half the first time, and the rest the second time. I agree with Vekta that this one starts to work quite quickly. It seems like most kava takes longer for me to feel the effects than most other people report, but I started to feel the relaxation in about five minutes. I can definitely see this one appealing to people who are looking for anxiety relief since it imparts a very peaceful relaxation. BKH is absolutely a top-notch vendor with great prices, excellent service, and superb product. This is only my third shipment (and second kava variety) from them, but they are very quickly becoming my favorite!
