BKH green instant help!

Hey guys new to kava. Decided to try instant instead of preparing. I bought 100g from BKH. I was wondering how much to use if I wanted the effect for 5 hours lets say for a stressful day at work. Also how long will 100 my instant green kava will last me?

I use two tablespoons per cup of water, with instants it might be hit and miss, so play around with dose until you find what you enjoy. If I remember right BKH recommends two teaspoons per cup, so go from there and work your way around. Have you ever drank kava before? If not, then I wouldn't anticipate too much of an effect your first time. It seems to be the general consensus among kava drinkers that at first, it's either a very light effect or nothing. Over time, though, a sort of reverse tolerance goes into effect, in which you will begin to enjoy kava for all it's worth. Like always, your mileage will indeed vary.

I've never had a kava experience last 5 hours. if it's potent enough kava to last 5 hours, I usually pass out. lol. Kava is best used, at least in my personal opinion, after a stressful day, unwinding for a few hours. Most people I know don't enjoy using kava while under particularly stressful work situations, but we work concrete so I suppose it depends on your job. I just wouldn't expect it to last 5 hours, maybe 2 - 3 hours at most after reverse tolerance.

How long 100g lasts depends on how much kava you find you like per serving. I'm almost out of my tin of instant as I use 2 - 3 tbsp per cup of water. It arrived this last Thursday, and now it's Monday night, and I've still got about 5 good servings (based on my prep method) left.

Hope that's some questions. Feel free to ask as much as you wish, we've got a good tight knit community of kava drinkers here.

I don't think you're going to get 5 whole hours out of an instant kava.

It's not hard to get 6 hours from self-prepared dried kava root though.

Instant, specially BKH instant, is good to have but it is what it is. It's meant to give you a quick and convenient way to have kava goodness with you and it does that job very well.

To put this into perspective. I can have a bowl or two of prepared kava root and I'll be good for about a week. If I have a bowl or two of just Instant I'll be good for about 2 days max. I've playing around and testing this kava about 9 times so far so I feel that's a far opinion on it. YMMV.

Great thanks for the reply guys. I ordered some Tongan pride as well. I don't understand how your suppose to drink the stuff. Just chug it down or slowly sip it till its gone? Do I make 1 cup of it . Sorry I've never had it before I want to have a good experience my first time.

Edit: I do know ur suppose to strain it and how to make it I just don't know how many cups of water to take to have a good experience and still be able to function.

I know you said you know how to make it, but I'll add my two cents on prep anyway because it was kind of confusing to me when I first started. This is how I go about kava preparation and drinking.

What I (and what most of us do) is get a big bowl, fill the bowl with 2 - 4 cups of water (or however many cups you're preparing), then add an appropriate amount of kava to a strainer (a good rule of thumb in 2 tbsp kava per cup of water, and go from there), then strain the kava in that bowl of water. The water will get brownish, milky, and the kava will feel oily. Keep squeezing and kneading the kava until it doesn't feel oily anymore and starts to take on a dry feeling. That's when you know you've got the bulk of the resins out. The resins and bits of root matter are what contain the kavalactones, which are not water soluble, so you'll end up with a good amount of sediment in the bowl. Remember to get a cup or coconut shell and stir the kava around periodically so that the sediment comes up and swims around instead of just settling at the bottom.

Now you're ready to drink. Grab your cup or shell (coconut shells are ~usually~ about 4oz, so half a cup) and chug it! Chug the whole shell in a few big gulps like it's been done for thousands of years. Some members have enjoyed sipping their kava, but I can't stand that lol.

How much you drink is going to be up to how you react to kava. You might find it doesn't affect you all that much at first, and therefore will be able to drink more kava. Personally, 2 shells of moderately strong kava will put me at ease but won't be too much. I'll be able to function with that dose, especially Tongan pride as it's more of an "up" kava anyway. Another thing to add is that different kavas will have different effects. So 2 cups of Tongan may be perfect for you, but two cups of Vanuatu Instant Green may accidentally floor you. So, be wary of that. Experiment before taking any to work with you. I've made that mistake before. lol.

Cool. I'll definitely try your method. I expect my batch will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Will let you know how it feels. So looking forward to trying kava!

I'm excited for you, I wish I could drink kava for the first time again lol. If you search around the forum for preparation methods, there are tons of unique and interesting ways of preparing kava from all of the members here to give a shot. Above all though have fun and make your own experience out of it.

I'm finding that I have to lay it on pretty heavy to start getting feeling myself. I seem to be a bit thick headed but I've been mixing about 2 tbsps Fu'u with about 2-3 tsp Instant Green mixed in a cold glass of unsweetened grapefruit juice to start getting a smiley response.

So I tried the instant today. 20 minutes didn't feel anything. Ate something and wow! I don't know how to describe the feeling yet. It's definitely a body sensation. Kind of like a body high but my mind is a little intoxicated. This is my first time trying kava though. Will try again in a couple hours and try to pinpoint what kind of effect it has on me. So far, I am LOVING this stuff!

If your first thought after trying kava for the first time is "Wow!" then my friend, welcome to the club lol. For some people it takes a while to feel anything, for others they "get it" right off the bat.

I'm happy to hear you had a good first experience, just reinforces my opinion that Vanuatu Instant Green is a good beginner kava.

So I made some tong pride. 3 tablespoon to 1.5 cup and had no effect. Guess I have to build tolerance but that's weird cuz the instant hit me.
