Blaspheemer.... Smoking Kava root

Anyone here try smoking ground Kava root?  I know its "blasphemy" but I'm not gonna be a snoot about it...
I just did... maybe a teaspoons worth of Borogu Kava Root...
It was pretty harsh but I did notice some effects.  Kinda the same as drinking 16-32oz of a good kava mix.. mainly head feeling with a little in the legs.  I enjoyed it.     Ehh.. it's already wearing off after 15 minutes.  
I never have experienced a "long" kava effect anyhow even from drinking.  But it is a nice relax, that's for sure.

BLASPHEMY!... Nah, people here doctor their kava up in all kinds of weird ways, chew on it, make it into coconut wax bricks, popsicles, stick it under their tongue, inject it into their nipples, you name it. Haven't tried it myself, I'm very into natural stuff and I don't feel like smoking is very natural, but cheers if you enjoy it.

Lol... all the stuff I found while searching was either mj smokers on other sites liking it or not, and on Kava sites the word blasphemy came up more than once...



But I DID get much more of an effect from smoking it than I ever did from drinking it... but it's a VERY harsh smoke.  And I only used a very small amount (like maybe enough to fill a one hitter.. i used the old pop can trick since I don't have any paraphanlia haha)   And I quit smoking 6 months ago (cigs) so maybe I shouldn't be smoking it either just because it may make me want cigs more than I do now...



It kind of went like this... feeling in the head, then legs, then hands, then just head, slight headache, gone... all in about 2 hours. I know I said I thought it was wearing off in 15 minutes but I was wrong. When I got up to go do something I was like.. hey hey!!! feeling good!
I plan on trying it again tonight.

Well, 2 more tests and it definitely gives me the feeling of drinking it on an empty stomach. Even get the numbness in the mouth and throat from the smoke. And it's not quite as harsh now that I know what to expect, but it still is harsh. But, I prefer that to a bloated belly from drinking so much mix.



For sure on "one hitter" worth relaxes me nicely and takes away cravings for a cigarette (6 months now since I quit.. )



It's interesting for sure! Maybe if there was a way to introduce a little humidity to it so it's not so dry and packed better it would be a little more mild. But not enough were it would mold of course.

I have no motivation to try it myself (currently enjoying my minor experimentation), but if I ever cross paths with you I'd love to try it with you.



I will say that I tried my first cigar at my bachelor party a few weeks back and it was a very enjoyable social experience, I can only imagine the bonus of kava added to that. The book I'm reading on kava has also pointed to a connection between smoking and drinking kava in some cultures (drink together then smoke together). If you can cut out the middle man, sounds good to me.

Intense heat should break the lactones rendering the kavalactones inactive, 141 F is generally regarded as the temperature that reaction occurs, although it requires water as a substrate, so I'm kind of surprised that it worked at all.

Grey Owl, I think 141F is for a maintained temperature. Smoking would only heat it for a few seconds or less.

Gray Owl - curious about the 141 temp to break down lactones.  I use to pasteurize lactones which would be suspended in a fluid and all was good...still very strong.  Don't know if I "burned a lot off" or broke some down but I could go up to 180-200 degrees.  flash pasteurization goes well beyond this and most herbal ingredients hold on.  I am guessing kava is a little different?

Never tried smoking it, a friend used to sell kava leaves for smoking, however I never tried it myself. Cliff from Maui Kava.net, if you want to see if it's still for sale. 



I am guilty of SNORTING this greyish brown powder. Like wasabi meets dirt. Intense....really intense....

Don't really recommend it unless you've lost a bet.

Been a couple months and I can say it sure does work. Nasty and harsh, but it even gives you the numbness and a very nice head buzz. I've rarely gotten as good a buzz from one "one hitters" worth smoked than 32oz of strong (1cup kava root to 2-3 cups water) mix.



I don't care about the "science" and if it breaks down.. it works. I'm guessing using a vaporizer might work even better.
