Hello everyone,
I've been lurking for a while but now I need some advice. I've been trying to control my blood pressure through natural means but haven't been completely successful and it looks like I may need to go on medication, at least for a while. I don't want to give up drinking kava because it has really been a lifesaver as far as my anxiety and panic attacks go. Nothing else has helped me. It appears that beta-blockers aren't an option with kava and I can't take ace inhibitors because of a bad reaction in the past to lisinopril. Does anyone have any experience with blood pressure medications that play nice with Kava?

I took them for a few days before I figured out the high blood pressure was short term. Not sure about long term. What are you doing, losartan? The best medicine for high blood pressure is exercise. Perhaps walking to start with. Loosing weight is nice too but everyone fails at that. They say NOT TO DO isometrics if you have high blood pressure. The thing about walking is that it also clears your mind and perhaps that's the real benefit.
If you could take your medicine and start walking, maybe you could reduce the dose over time. Some people are just gonna have it no matter what but you can manage it.

Thanks for the reply. Losartan was one of the drugs my doctor mentioned, but it appears to have a moderate interaction with Kava. Does that mean I just couldn't drink Kava around the same time as I take a pill, or that I shouldn't drink any Kava at all while I'm taking a certain medication? I suppose I should just tell my doctor about my Kava consumption, but I'm sure I'd just get told about how dangerous it is and that I should stop drinking it.

That's a tough one. Perhaps you could google Losartan and get more information.

I could definitely stand to lose about thirty pounds, which I can do, but it keeps coming back. ; ; I limit my carbs and don't eat any refined sugar. I did go off the wagon for a few days around Thanksgiving, though. And I recently broke my little toe, so I wasn't exercising for a few weeks. Maybe that combination was responsible for my recent hike in blood pressure. I took a thirty minute walk today and feel a bit better. My doctor thinks stress and anxiety is a big contributor to my high blood pressure, but for the last month since I've been drinking Kava it is a lot better.
