Powdered Kava Review Borogu

I just want to say I'm a huge fan of KWK because they offer their kava on Amazon.ca even though they take a price hit. I'm thankful for a Canadian source of quality kava. Some of them are even offered under prime so I can get them in 2 days. I decided to try Borogu because I haven't tried it yet and it was offered under prime. I wasn't expecting such a coarse grind. It feels much less oily than the kava I'm used to. I've tried it a few times, and it feels less potent than the kava I usually like, but it makes for a good daytime kava since it's not overwhelming. I have to use 1/4 of a cup instead of my usual 1/8 cup in order to get a strong enough brew.

I dug up my old blender to try the blender method but couldn't find the lid and unfortunately it didn't work very well with a makeshift lid.

This kava has a very distinctive smell, definitely peppery, and a strong taste as well, but if I chill it in the fridge for a few hours the taste is pretty much gone.

I think in the future I'll prefer kava with stronger effects, but this stuff is a good daytime kava.

Thanks for the review Schmedward! That's a great point and actually the pitfalls of offering a coarser grind, while it is somewhat weaker (and we tried to price it accordingly) compared to some of our other varieties, the grind makes the actual amount of kava used deceiving if measured by volume (cup or tablespoon). For instance, if you have a bag of Pouni Ono and Borogu side by side you'll notice the PO only fills about 1/2 to 2/3 of the bag while the Borogu is packed to the brim.
If you were to measure the kava by weight, 4 TBS PO comes out at around 24 gms while the Borogu comes out to about 16 gms.

This is actually an experiment in grind, my theory being that coarser grinds may produce less nausea by providing less sediment.

As you work your way through the rest of the bag, I'd love to hear about the experience and your thoughts if this is true at all?

I've noticed that yes, the Borogu bag was filled to the brim!
So far, it does seem to cause less nausea, but I usually squeeze it in a large mixing glass and then pour it into a water bottle and I haven't really noticed a difference in sediment - whether I'm using Borogu or Pouni Ono, there's always just a little bit of sediment in the bottom. I put the kava inside a reinforced stocking instead of a regular one because it lets less sediment through.

Just as an example, I made this bottle of kava a couple of hours ago and put it in the fridge to drink tonight, and this is the sediment on the bottom:

This is Borogu, Pouni Ono looks similar except the liquid is lighter. For scale, it's a regular 591 ml Dr. Pepper bottle like you would get out of a vending machine.
