Boroguru review. First time using kava

I ordered
some Boroguru kava from Bula Kava House in the early hours of Thursday and
received it Saturday(less than 3 days). I soaked it for about an hour. I got to
work kneading it on the floor watching “The Big Bang Theory”. This went on for
30 minutes and took a picture of the results. I went ahead and put the used
kava in a plastic bag for possibly making a weaker batch.

This was my
first time trying kava.
It didn’t
taste as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. Almost a familiar taste I
couldn’t quite recognize. With the first drink I noticed a numbness, which was
an interesting effect.
I used a
little more than a quart of water to about 8 tablespoons of kava. I think I used
too much water. Any recommendations for strong kava without so much water?
After a while it did get harder to drink possibly because of the numbness or the
fullness feeling.
It made me
calmer/less anxious with some positive vibes/well-being.  Over all it seemed like a light but good
feeling. Maybe if I drink it for a while I’ll get some of that reverse
tolerance going.
Sorry for the bad grammar. I wish I would of wrote the review after I finished the kava off. I can't really describe it well enough now.

It looks like you got off to a pretty good start. Keep going, you're doing fine.
Oh and...nice bowl. (Thumbsup)

I made some more this morning. Felt about the same; it does still seem subtle.

I decided to drink a frozen coffee energy drink with bad results. I got really nauseous for the rest of the day like on a opiate.

It may have been from drinking the small sandy particles. I guess I'll try filtering more next time and no coffee drinks.

I'll keep logging each time to see the differences.

Boroguru is a stronger kava with a relatively high DHM content which will provide more muscle relaxation. Kava is a somewhat mild intoxicant compared to many others and almost always seems subtle when someone first starts drinking. The effects will become more intense as you become a regular drinker. For most people using 8 tablespoons for 1 quart of water isn't close to enough. When making kava at home for myself I will use at the very least 60 grams to 1 quart, maybe more. That's about 1/4 of the 250 gram bag you purchased. Volume wise, that's about 2-3 parts water to 1 part kava. Also try adding a little soy lecithin next time. It makes a pretty big difference in potency. You can find granules in the supplement sections of most grocery stores.

Alright thanks. This will help out a lot. I'll try making some more with this ratio sometime soon and post about it.

On Thursday I made a batch with 16oz water to 1 cup kava.

I did feel the effects more but I ended up getting sick. I don't think I can drink kava on a empty stomach like other people can.

Today I used the kava I had saved from the last batch. It still made a strong drink.
I'm feeling the effects right now. I ate something a little bit before and
don't feel sick like I did the last two times from drinking it on a empty stomach.

I feel relaxed with heavy eyelids and feeling it in my muscles. Seems like I can feel it in my face and neck more.
There's no tension that I often feel in my body.

High DHM kavas are reputed to be more likely to make you nauseous. 24 oz is about the max that I'd want to drink in one session, that's 6 shells at 4 oz each. I'll typically drink 2 shells worth right away at the start of a session then wait 12 minutes before each additional shell. I'll keep the amount of water roughly the same and adjust the amount of kava depending whether I want it stronger or weaker. I wouldn't keep the kava for more than a day or two. I let some kava sit for 3-4 days once and it actually turned sour tasting, presumably because the starch started to ferment, it was pretty gross but was not any less effective and didn't make me sick.

Thanks, that 1/4 kg is about gone now. I'm wondering if I should buy some more Boroguru or try FU'U.

I get the idea about both of them it's just hard to think what each is like.

I don't think I've felt the full potential of Boroguru yet.

I tried the blend method but I've only got a old food processor so it half worked.

I've stayed around 12-16oz of water now.

I need to get more money on PayPal before I can buy more Kava. -.- Thought I had more than I do.

I looked at stone and it'd come up cheaper than Fu'u hehe.

Stone would be cheaper? How so?

Fu'u appears cheaper at 2.2 lbs (shipping not considered though)

Yes, Fu'u is cheaper than Stone. $76 for the full kilo plus $12 for super fast shipping, versus $94 for Stone. Cheaper at the half kilo level too.

I'd prefer Fu'u over the stone anyway. Thought that would be one hell of a combination. I may have to try that sometime.

Nihilist - Don't stress too much about which kava to try next, that's the fun of this hobby. There are so many different kinds of kava to try from different parts of the world, it's a lot of fun to see the different effects and tastes and colors and textures. It's like traveling all over the place in a way. Enjoy the fun! I've been drinking kava for what like two years by now I think, I still don't know if I have a specific preferred kava or not. and I'm nowhere near to trying them all hehe...(smiley: smokin)

I might be giving that a shot soon. I recently got Stone (enjoying it very much I might add) and am already eager to do some more exploring. I figured I'd pick up my next one from BKH since Judd has been so helpful in my early explorations... and Fu'u seems pretty widely liked here, so why not!

Well I sold some stuff.

As I reach the end of my Boroguru I feel it has grown on me.
Looks like your Fu'u came down by $2 or I just imagined it was $22 for 1/4 before.
What's the shipping on 1/2 a kilo from BKH?

I get your point kavalover =).

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I went ahead and ordered a pound this time. I did end up going with Boroguru because I'm cheap and starting to like it(smiley: tongue)

I'm not sure how the inside of your strainer bag should look but mine looks kind of crazy so I ordered another one of those.
It's got long strings hanging from it when I empty it. I may have been too hard on it.

Yeah I had the same experience with those kinds of muslin bags. They're great for straining kava but mine would start to unravel and come apart after a while. I still swear by the Fijan strainer bags you can get for like 3 bucks. They're colorful too ;)

I'll have to try some. I think I saw them. Are they the ones from Kule's Kava?

I thought they looked pretty cool.
