Boroguru Vs. Stone

Hey,

Can anyone here tell me how BKH Boroguru compares to H@H Stone in terms of effect?  I love the stone, but I'm wondering if there might be a less expensive alternative out there.

From what I've read so far, the boroguru seems like it might fit the bill.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thx

I've never had stone but Boroguru can be plenty potent (and I mean plenty) if prepared with some care.
I've had Isa and Chief's Jungle. Boroguru got me far more krunk than either of those ever did on there best days. I don't know where Stone is compared to those two but I do know it's on the heavy side.
If you just want something to calm you down and take the edge off the day. You don't need to spend an hour soaking and squeezing out some Boroguru. 15-20 minutes will do. If you need more "oomf" an hour long soak and 20-35 minutes of squeezing and kneading will get you to where you want to be and in a big way. As with most things, YMMV.

Thanks for the reply!

Would you say that squeezing and kneading longer yeilds more potent effects for all types of kava or just for the boroguru? My impression from what I've read (I don't have a lot of my own experience yet) is that you can only get so much out it before it becomes pointless.

I usually just work mine for 15-20 minutes tops and discard. I'd hate to think that I've been wasteful. I have re-soaked my root material overnight and got nothing out of it, but I'm starting to think that I'm just a hard head. I really enjoy the more profound effects and could do with or without the subtle ones.

If that makes any sense...

I would say it depends on the grind. A course grind will benefit from soaking. The finer the grind the less soaking will benefit your brew. Boroguru is in the middle of the scale. Water needs time to get in there and soak into the root fibers. After about an hour it's more like squeezing the water out of a firm sponge. All the good stuff in your new "kava sponge" can now be more easily squeezed out. At least that's what I've found in my own experience with different grinds.
There really isn't much point in soaking a fine grind kava. When you squeeze and knead a lot of it is going to get forced out of the strainer bag unless you have a really, really fine weave. You might have less than half of the original amount you put in the strainer bag after squeezing with a fine grind kava.  Getting some of that fine particulate matter in the water is fine and some might even have a personal preference for it.

Stone is a coarse powder. Nothing like Fu'u from bkh(which made me sick to my stomache). I have a 1/4 lb of that which I may never touch again. I think I would like it if I could get the particulate out. My panty hose don't do the job on that stuff.

I want to try the boroguru, but am worried that I won't achieve the effects I want. I can only really afford one or the other right now.

The part that makes it a hard decision is that I can get twice as much of the boroguru as I can of stone for the money. If they were the same price, I would just stick with stone since I know I like it.

Can you kinda give me a brief review of the boroguru ala the kavassuer so I can determine if I want it? I like that the stone can be felt strongly in the head (almost an alcohol buzz, but I haven't drank in 2 years and wont ever do it again). It also deeply relaxes me all the way to the bones. It's like a heavy, soothing blanket over my brain and my body almost in equal parts.

Personally I think boroguro is the best buy for the money and effect out there. I do however feel that stone is pound for pound the strongest kava I've ever come across. I think boroguro has the exact effect as stone, just stone is more potent. The major downfall is it is nearly twice as expensive but definately not twice as potent, mabye 1.25-1.5 tops as potent. I also like the grind of boroguro much better, it is a nice course grind that is perfect for hand squeezing. Tudei used to be very stonish but the new batch is nowhere near as diesel as the last one so I would go with boroguro. I love the stuff, I've tried several from N@H and KBR and gotten fu'u and black bag from BKH. But I've bought 2 kilos of boroguro the last 6 months and when I run through the last one I'll definately re-up. It is a heavy DHM with strong sedative and hypnotic properties very reminscent of stone and alot better tasting for about half the price.

Stone is nice and powerful indeed but, it just doesn't work for my digestive system :/

Boroguru is probably ranked higher in my terms, above stone. It's wonderful to put you into a sedating blissful world that ends on a bit of euphoria. It's especially nice if mixed with Fu'u

I appreciate all of the responses. I went ahead and bought some boroguru last night. I'm sure I will love it.

Even if I have to use 1.5 times as much root to achieve the same effect, then I'm still saving some money by switching the bkh...

I'm excited to try it in any case. I was a little disappointed in Fu'u. But I think that's because I simply could not get the particulates out of my brew. The plant matter really gets my stomach in an uproar. I seem to have a lot less issues when I can strain out everything but the liquid.

I found the best way to drink fu'u was just to mix a tablespoon into a cup of water and chug it the same way as an instant. There are a handfull of companies that sell that are simply micronized kava root. None of the ones that we talk about here that though, they use dehydrated kava juice. I never noticed indigestion problems that way, but I've also have a pretty iron stomach in terms of kava. I know other members here also drank fu'u like an instant as well with no problems. I do agree that it was a nightmare to strain. Boroguru is a much coarser grind and very easy for hand squeezing and straining.

I do the same as new2kava. I still really like Fu'u mixed in grapefruit juice.

I've wanted to mix Fu'u in a fruit smoothie for a while now, but I never make fruit smoothies. lol. It just sounds good.
