Kava Preparation Chew Kava Like Chewing Tobacco?

Has anyone tried to put a pinch of ground root powder between their gums and cheek (like you would with chewing tobacco)? I tried it with a little bit of KWK Boronguru and had a really nice numb mouth. It seemed to work..would consuming kava this way release the kavalactones without wasting my money?

I've tried that as well, it's certainly effective but not in an amount that has the effects I look for. There are some ways you can remain frugal with your kava, like using a little less and doing 2-3 washes. Many of us, including myself freeze the makas after the second or third wash for a later date. If you do freeze the makas, try to accumulate 1/2 cup to 1 cup of the frozen root, before you defrost it and strain it.

I was curious on this myself, how long do you leave it sitting there and does it stay all together or get everywhere in your mouth?

I leave it in for about 15 minutes. I don’t spit, I swallow (insert joke here). I alternate it from left to right side of my mouth occasionally, maybe 2-3 times throughout the 15 minutes, to loosen it up and re-pack (exactly like tobacco). The pinch stays together quite nicely, but I notice it does run dry by the end of the 15 minutes.

Hello krunky, I've been wondering about this so when you've accumulated enough say a cup do you just put it in a strainer bag in a bowl and let it defrost and knead it or do you add some water and knead it like normal?

I have chewed on, or put larger chunks in my gums for a while - but holding medium grind tends to just turn into a mess. You could teabag it (insert another joke here). A long time ago when dipping was popular if we couldn't get the little pouch we would cut open a tea bag, stuff it with chew, and use that instead of putting it straight in. Cut down on the mess, and made it easier to ditch if a teacher was on to you....god we were idiots as kids.

Yes you can let it defrost and run it like you would with 2-3 cups of water and knead as usual or you can be impatient like me and toss it in the blender with hot water. Either way, you strain it through a 75-100 micron bag afterwards and depending on the kava or kavas that were used, you may still be able to pull a couple more washes out of it.

Lol. When I was in high school most kids just dipped openly and spat into a coke bottle. Some teachers would just let the kids do it in class. Welcome to the south, I guess.

Anyway, I'm sure that'd work to some extent, but if you're looking for quicker Kava you might check out micro grinds. If you're looking to be frugal I second what's been said about multiple washes. If you want to be quick and frugal, maybe get an aluball or something, idunno.

I thought chewing kava was the real traditional method. Wasn't it chewed and then squeezed?
I like chewing on a big root chunk when I find one, I'd rather chew on raw sugarcane, but none of the vendors slip those in with their root. ;)
