Wanted to start a thread for people using kava to deal with chronic pain as some varieties of kava do have more analgesic effects then others.
From what I understand in general the "heavy kavas" are more likely to have increased analgesic effects.
I have tried many different kavas in search for the best pain killing effects. So far a few kavas have helped some but I am still in search of a kava with increased analgesic properties.
If anyone has gotten good results with a particular kava it would be nice to hear.

Bula!

As you may very well know, a certain percentage of pain management is the psychological aspect. When you're depressed, everything hurts more than normal which creates a terrible cycle. Heady kava in the morning and daytime helps with the depression. I find well rounded root that leans to the heady side helps me most, since I struggle with the emotional side of pain. I had spinal fusion surgery three years ago, and it eliminated maybe 80% of the pain, but being still young,(33) I feel somewhat broken and limited, physically speaking.
The Fiji loa waka is well rounded with a heady kick. Mahakea is good for later on in the eve. While it isn't crazy strong, when I push it a shell or two further than normal sessions, the effects are deep and sleep is very effective.
While heady root may not melt the muscles, it helps you snap out of your funk.
-Heady root for depression associated with pain.
-heady and/or Well rounded root on tough days, or days when your work is done.
-heavy root for sleep and bad days, when all tasks are taken care of.
This is how I roll. By the way, I had 3 strong shells of GHK Fiji waka at 5pm. While not extremely potent, the effects are very well rounded and pleasurable. It's going on 10pm and it's effects are still quite noticeable. It's not weak stuff, btw. Add 1-2 more rounded tablespoons of root in the strainer and it will bring the potency up to par. It's good stuff, and you won't get couchlocked.

Yep heady strains are my go to. A little gets me through the work day and in the evening they put a smile on my face. I still sleep well on heady kavas too, no need to switch to heavy before bed for me. I still would like to try more medicinal body kavas though.

I don't have much pain (just the usually arthritis and stuff) but I have heard that Boroguru is good for that. I'm looking forward to trying the Hiwa because that is a known heavy dark kava. According to the newsletter, that kava was reserved for Royalty so they could get zonked like no one else ... and hopefully make less decisions. I think Congress needs some of that ... but after they approve the budget. I think Chris should send some to "the Donald". "Settle down little feller, just settle down." :D

I have my share of chronic pain issues. Heavier (read: medicinal) kavas have always been my go to for effective relief. Couch lock isn't much an issue for me, it was the tudei kavas that enabled me to move about my day and get more done, among other things. For me, massive amounts of noble kava didn't come close and when they did the cost to benefit ratio put them out of reach.

The best noble kava for its anaglesic effects i have tried is Papa Kea. It has a certain kind of heaviness to it which can be profound if feeling receptive to it. I liked it better than the boroguru, and unfortunately I didn't experience the heavy effects that so many others do with the Hiwa. Maybe this year's batch will be better for me.

Papa kea should be available again in 3 to 4 months just heard from Chris.

I've found kava, just about any good noble, relieves pain. But for me, it also stops the effects of other medicines.

I wonder how closely the 5 follows the 4 in that profile. Hiwa sounds like a winner to me, in regards to pain relief. I like dhm in small doses. A M/Dhm combo in the 3rd and 4th spot sounds swell to me.
