DimScreen - The answer to browsing web on computer with "kava eyes"

As I stated in the title, this nifty little program lets you dim your screen (windows operating system only I think) to pitch black if you wanted to. It really makes kava sessions on the computer much more enjoyable. Even at the lowest settings in windows the screen was just blinding and I used to hate surfing the web when drinking kava, now its great! (smiley: happy)

Dont worry its virus free and free of charge. I just wanted to share this with everyone incase someone had a similar problem to mine. BuLA to you all!
TIP: This program does not install, you need to just create a shortcut for it, and when you double click it it will show up in your item tray at the bottom right corner of your task bar, right click there and you can adjust the settings.

oh cool, well my computer has a pretty wide range of dimming sooo i can usually get it to a good spot. usually when i dim it down to where i like it, minutes later if find that it is still too bright. then i dim it some more and then its still too bright later on. has this happened to you?

Yes, once my eyes adapt the the darkness, the screen is bright no matter what the settings in windows. Thats why I praise this program so much.

I wish I had chosen a different name. :/ I thought it would be good wordplay because kava is, well, kava, and kavanah is a transliteration of כונה or "intention" following its pronunciation in Modern Hebrew. But it's a feminine noun and it feels odd every time someone uses it to refer to me. Is there any way to change one's nick on a yuku board?

I'm still not very familiar to yuku so not sure if I can be of any help but have you tried going to account settings and changing your display name? Not sure if it works.. couldn't hurt to give it a shot.

and on this topic, looks like an interesting program project460

I agree it can get very uncomfortable surfing the web with kava eyes, however my macbook lets me go all the way down near pitch black and that's usually my comfort zone when my eyes just want to comprehend nothing.

@kavalover, I tried that ages ago, but I don't think it applies retroactively to boards where one already participates. It might be something that requires admin approval. Will have to check with the boss man when he returns from his luxurious vacation in Ghana.

@project, stars. Yeah I know nobody will judge. It's just my own associations with the linguistic manifestation of the gender binary in Hebrew that are at issue. I don't care what other people think, whatava, I do what I want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZLVi4v7lSM

ON TOPIC:

The plus with f.lux over a conventional screen dimmer is that it filters out the blue light. Everything's just as clear and bright but it looks more like the warm light you'd expect from a lamp. For me it makes a bigger difference. I also use blacklight when I want to dim my screen under OS X and another app under Windows. If I'm browsing the web or getting stuff done I have f.lux set to turn on gradually at dusk. Only time I disable it is if I want to play TF2 or some other game where my n00b pwn4g3 sk1llz are hindered by the reduced blue light.
