From an ethical point of view I think it is not the case that toss n' wash is one thing different from everything else and bad but rather, to some extent all grog consumption is some type or degree of toss and wash, where you are consuming ground up solids with water. It is a continuum, as it were, with trad prep at one end and putting dry medium grind in your mouth and taking a sip of water and swishing and swallowing at the other, with micro, and this home-made micro, somewhere in the middle. Everything has its own place and time. Only consideration is that the greater the solids you consume, the greater the risk of nausea and dermo. Doesn't mean someone can't ever have toss n' wash (although I never do) or it's strictly for low life trash, it just means you can't do it that often or you overtax your body's ability to handle it.
Now that I think of it, I wouldn't put even trad grog at the end of that spectrum, but rather, the drink I make from the dried kava powder I make from that silky sediment left at the bottom of a glass or jar of trad grog.
