Fascinating Agenda. The who should participate part reads- "Quality control personnel (manufacturers of botanical ingredients and dietary supplements), contract labs (testing services) technicians, chemists, quality assurance personnel, laboratory supervisors, QC and QA managers".

Yeah, definitely something we should stay aware of. Hopefully they start to realize that dna is not the only form of quality control when they are usually two different plant parts that are same dna but different levels of toxicity.
But this is also good that the keynote speakers seem interesting and on the right path in terms of saftey in regards to plants in supplements

Who should participate? Kava buyers. Kava processors, exporters and importers. People who operate kava bars overseas.

It is always important to learn how to safely harvest and process plants. You can't treat a plant like every part is the same, like you can just grind it up and extract a refined, marketable product.

Peach pits and apple seeds contain cyanide. Green potatoes can block absorption of nutrients and make you slowly starve. Uncooked taro will make your mouth prickle and itch painfully. Unopened ackee will straight up kill you dead.

To use a plant, to benefit from a plant, to care for a plant... you first have to understand the plant.

And by the way, ackee is awesome.

And on the theme of always learning what you're dealing with... usp.org is not the same organsation as usp.ac.fj! :ROFLMAO:

They are "United States Pharmacopia" not the University of the South Pacific. That sure explains why they're so heavy on the Big Pharma angle, rather than simply enjoying kava as a beverage.

those bright berries on the potato plant will make you mighty sick, too. Rhubarb stalks are edible but the leaves have toxic quantities of oxalic acid. You can eat the whole polar bear, except its liver, which is toxic with vitamin A levels through the roof. Cassava (manioc) is poisonous unless treated properly first. I could go on and on... And do.
