First Kava Order from JustPacific Trading

Hello Forum,

I have never tried Kava Kava before and was looking for a relaxing alternative to alcohol so I did some searching and decided to place an order with JustPacific Trading, since they have great shipping rates to South Africa.

I placed an order for their sampler pack of 100 grams Kava Powder and 10 grams Instant.

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with their Kava.

The last update on their website is from 2012 and their twitter account is full of spam so naturally I'm a bit anxious about my order. :/

Their Borogu is one of my standard kavas. It's very cheap for me and it arrives in about 2 days because they are based about 30 minutes from where I live. It's good stuff, but doesn't have quite the impact of the premium stuff you get from BKH, Paradise etc. Kind of like an everyday kava for me. The grind is quite coarse.

I haven't ordered from them in a few months. They do seem to have gone quiet in recent months. It used to be they would always be selling kava here also: http://www.sella.co.nz/search-kava/ but haven't seen it in a while. Hopefully they are still operating!

Edited: it's not Boroguru, thanks ObiWan.

This is the kava I use - it's the only one I can get. I follow the instructions on their website, with some modifications.. For dry root I add 25g to a fiji strainer bag and put it in 400 ml of water to soak for at least half an hour. Then I use a potato masher and mash for 5 mins. I lose about 20 mls of water in the process, so that leaves me with 380 mls of kava which is 3 shells for me. I like to have those 3 shells at 15 minute intervals. I usually start at around 5.00 pm. As others have said, for the best effect take it on an empty stomach i.e. don't eat anything between lunch and kava time.

For instant, just add 10g to 375 mls of water and mix. I use a protein powder shake container and just shake it up. The instant has a much milder taste.

I wouldn't worry about your order. I have found them to be very reliable.

Thank you for your replies, this forum is so friendly and helpful.

I can't wait to try my first Kava shell!

I'm at a point in my life where I've had enough of alcohol, just had too many bad experiences being reckless and of course, the hangover and the liver damage.

I do get minor bouts of anxiety that interfere with my ability to socialize at events like birthdays and the like and I've always used alcohol to help that.

I have read that kava has reverse tolerance, does this also mean that you do not become resistant to its effects?

Since it works in a similar way to benzodiazepines I am a bit worried that I will become dependent on kava to keep my anxiety away and that stopping use could cause rebound anxiety worse than it was before.

What are your experiences with Kava and anxiety?

I ordered twice.

It is a litlle bit strange: If you choose "International-Express-Checkout", they offer "Land Diver", Pentecost Island, Vanuatu, which is described as Borogu. (@vorticity: not Boroguru!).
Their site for New Zealand orders says: "Our current Borogu Kava (Land Diver Kava) is milled at 50% rootstock. Very POTENT -"
I am wondering if this also applies to the stuff they sell for overseas.  And I always thought that a good Kava should come from the  lateral roots only.

The first delivery was a coarse-grind Kava. The second delivery one year later (last month) has a much finer grind. The sticker on the bag says "Hawaian Pacific Tea" distributed by Pacific Organics, Wellington, NZ. So I doubt that this is a "Borogu variety".

Both strains are much weaker then all my other Kavas. ( I usually buy from KbR or Bula).

Service is excellent, they did everything I wanted regarding customs declaration etc.
But at the end the Kava is too expensive when I need to take the double amount of Powder to feel a bit.
