For anxiety treatment, can Kava be taken only when symptoms come or should it be taken regularly eve

I think both. It can be used acutely but if your condition is say generalized anxiety or OCD and is more chronic then daily imo. Also, daily use like most things causes change over time, I don't think the full potential of anxiolysis is reached till several weeks in.

If you have a specific phobia like flying, or social anxiety then as needed would be fine. It all depends on your diagnosis.

Yes, both. Root powder for daily or weekly upkeep, Kava Candy or CO2 extract for "oh crap" moments.

For me it took about 2-3 weeks to be effective to it's full potential.

Well I have generalized anxiety (actually I'm kind of an uncommon case because my anxiety is mostly subconscious & manifests itself with physical symptoms such as shortness of breath). Anyway I have many days without anxiety at all. I was thinking I could restrict Kava to bad days and take nothing during good days. Not a good idea ?

@Vakta for example do you have Kava even in your good days ?

Yes and no.
Yes I do drink kava on good days. But that is because my weekly upkeep dose happens to fall on that day. Sometimes I don't even have it weekly. Sometimes I go almost two weeks without any kava.
No not really. Once I got accustomed to using kava and achieving a decent level of reverse tolerance the reasons why I started using kava are nowhere near as much of a problem as they used to be. I just don't need it that often to treat anxiety since the residual effects stick around for days after a kava session.
Sometimes I have a bowl of kava just for kicks, with a friend or when I introduce someone new to kava. I don't really think about it too much since I'm not stuck locked in a dosing schedule or get hit with some kind of horrible withdraws if I stop for a while for whatever reason.

Nothing uncommon about that, those are symptoms of anxiety namely generalized anxiety when one is anxious for no good reason. Kava daily would be my suggestion, at a constant dose avoiding getting smashed to often.

for Type A people like myself who are kinda anxious but not really that much, and who are perpetual students of the "Art of Relaxation" (a whole topic by itself), kava is purely recreational.
It 'aids' in the enjoyment of life, relaxation or just to wrap up a busy day of work.

In the South Pacific, this is mostly the case, people drink kava to enjoy themselves with their friends and community members.

However, as it was discovered relatively recently in the Western world, (a blip of time, given Kava's 3000 year legacy) that it also helps with anxiety, etc.

In essence, your author is a recreational kava user (almost 100% of the time), however that is not the case for quite a few people.

It has cured my anxiety.

If you plan on only taking it occasionally then I would first recommend taking it continually for a few weeks to build up the reverse tolerance first.

If u are just starting then taking it occasionally may not work.

You could try what I did if you don't want to mix kava that often. I took pills for several months first, then when I switched to drinking kava i had already built a tolerance. I'm not sure if this always works or if I got lucky.

But now that I switched to drinking I drink it daily.

Hi, draikin,

My personal use of kava started as a "home remedy" for PTSD. At times I forget about it and go too long without drinking kava, and then the anxiety comes back, so I advise daily use. I'm not sure how you feel about your anxeity. Personally, I hate PTSD. Not everything with a "D" is bad, and not all "S" is distress, but who couldn't use a whole lot less "T" in their lives? I refuse to take anything I need a prescription for because I don't want the pill be to associated with the trauma, and I know it will be. With kava, though, I turn it into a cross between a religious devotion and recreational drug abuse. I would much rather see myself as a "kava junkie" than as a uniquely traumatized individual.
