News Article Forest Mapping Around the Fields of Kava

Kava Lover
South Santo has a lot of semi-forested ranch land. The trees you see in that video are not primary forest. The gardens are on ranch land - mixed beef cattle with coconut, fruit trees, natangura, etc.

Surveying the land periodically can track which tree species are growing and which are going down. Shifting land use patterns can have unintended consequences, especially when the trees change.

Though in this case, running fewer beefs and planting some more young shade trees around the gardens seems like a good thing. Young trees have a better chance of maturing without as many cows, and the trees shelter the kava.

Oh, and part where they're talking about "8000 stampa," that's stampa blo kava, not tree stumps :D
