This is my first post/review on this site, but I am not a stranger to kava. I've had fresh awa in Hawai'i along with various powdered roots over the years (Kona Kava, Non-branded Hawai'ian roots). This was the first time I felt such a strong effect. After my first cup I waited 30 mins and didn't notice much of an effect so I had the second cup. About 20 mins after that I felt what seemed like an adrenaline rush as my mind came to terms with the new effects it was experiencing. My pulse was definitely elevated from the adrenaline and I had to put on some relaxing music to mellow out. The rush passed in about 30 mins and turned into a nice mind and body relaxation that is continuing until I went to sleep about four hours later. I had to do the dishes and noticed some slight lack of coordination.

Overall, this GHK Hanakapi'ai is very strong awa. Awa has helped me relax before, but this was my first time noticing such heady break-through raciness. I wonder if it's this strain or just that I've never had strong awa before... No hangover the next day, and I definitely slept well - lots of vivid dreams.

Oh yeah, the tatste:Nice cool mint aftertase along with some peppery notes

Thanks for the great review, I am glad you liked my 'Awa. Hanakapi'ai is a strong kava and is a very rare one too, some speculate that because of it's rarity it is so strong, they say that since it is only found in one valley on one island in Hawaii that it must have been either bad or good and as you see it a certainly a good one that the Hawaiians seems to have kept for themselves in that area. It is named after the valley that it came from. Thanks again and aloha.

Nice review punatic! That looks like a daytime kava if taken in small doses.

Chris, it is strong! I think next time I'll use half that amount or spread it out so my brain doesn't get hit by a huge wave of kavain. It is interesting that DHK is the second most abundant kavalactone, which seems unusual compared to the other Hawai'ian strains. I think I've had tudeis before (based on the hangover) but this Hanakapi'ai didn't cause any hangover even with the supposedly higher DHK content - just a nice afterglow of positive feelings.
