Has Kava affected your sociability?

Just a question out of curiosity. Any observations if Kava has contributed to you being more social overall or in contrast more isolated as a person? I‘ve always been very comfortable being alone, But Kava has taken that to a new level. :) And, it hasn't been a negative trait at all. I'm not sure if it partly is due to not wanting to be around people drinking alcohol at times. It can get a bit obnoxious sometimes. I have even found that Kava has alienated me a bit on that front with certain groups. But, overall Kava has allowed me to just really enjoy the solo time, even more, when I have it. Maybe I need to move to the epicenter of Kava drinkers worldwide. But, I have noticed also that it really breaks down the walls of any type of social anxiety and makes those times a lot better as well.

A bit of both really. I am more comfortable when I go hang out in social situations, and I am more comfortable just chilling at home. I wish I had enough people to share kava with that I could enjoy a live kava circle but to date I have had very few converts (basically one). Really kava lets me be more comfortable in any situation because it relives the bit of anxiety that is telling me I should be doing something else...

I live in Sudan now, so being “social” takes a lot of effort. I have no one to drink Kava with, so I drink it alone - with my books. I feel great, though. To be honest, even when I lived in the US I would only be social with Kava if other Kava drinkers were involved. @Señor Chuggs was my Kava pal.

Im not a complety unsociable person . However i mostly domit when there is alcohol around.
What imhave found is that Kava helps me do that without alcohol. In the last few weeks ive had two evenings
At people's houses where they were drinking and i was not. It was still fun, and drinking kava also seemed to
Relax the others in that noone was feeling bad that they were drinking and i wasnt.

Both those nights fell on my diary in such a way that I would have not attended due to not wanting to drink alcohol.

So its made me socialise more than I would have.

I've never had social anxiety but it certainly has helped me be better at conversation though, words roll off my tongue better and I don't have as many moments of wondering what they would think about what I said. Guess it uprooted some trust issues with people I had though. But when I'm drinking kava I prefer to be alone though to take in the experience easier. More personal up front but after I'm brighter and easier on myself. But if I go out somewhere on kava it's always a good experience anyways.

If I am with other kava drinkers, it makes me more social - but it can also make me less social towards non-kava drinkers. For example, if i'm looking forward to a shell, I will make excuses to get out of invitations to dinner/drinks with others so I that can have kava, even if by myself.

I've always been a big solo time person though I do love people. I've noticed when I'm pressured to get out of the house, I generally have a better time than I used to without kava. Also, I get more positive feedback on the impression I leave.

I've recently learned it's good to be more watchful if becoming too sleepy or depressed to drink a little less kava. Isolation doesn't help those things either.

I’m so glad you posed this question...
I, like many have said, have always been pretty happy by myself as an adult. I’m fine being single, and my job (working with folks with psychiatric illnesses) necessitates solo recovery time. I’ve noticed that my last two years, since discovering kava, have had an increased amount of alone time.
As for the social side of kava drinking... I don’t have any friends who partake! The few who I’ve invited for kava were put off by the taste. Most of my close friends (and I) are in recovery, so there’s no social drinking or substance taking going on. I always hope to have the chance to drink kava in a group- but haven’t had the opportunity yet. Seems like some of the strains just beg for friends and laughter.

I’ve had the same experience. Every friend I’ve tried to convert to Kava is to repulsed by the taste and nausea to give it a chance. Ironic considering I’m known among my friends/family for having a weak stomach. Secretly, it makes me happy though. I feel like I’m enjoying something really special. I’m glad Kava hasn’t gone as mainstream as K@.
