Hi Everyone :)
I have been reading your forum for a few days. The only kava I have tried has been the Gaia Kava Kava Root capsules, and sporadically at that. I am really wanting a mild kind of experience, and am feeling completely overwhelmed at all of the different brands and choices of root. Can you recommend something for first-timers that won't necessary be like a quad-shot espresso, but not a decaf either?

@Summer, Welcome to the forum! ::awesomesmiles::
I would try the GHK Sampler (Gourmet Hawaiian Kava). You can try instant/micronized/powder samplers. Or you can get a sample with all 3. All the GHK kavas are 100 percent Noble. The mildest Kava they sell is the Nene. It is mild but a potent kava for what I call "dark sleep". Every kava has its niche. I think the Nene is still on sale for those that are subscribed to his Fresh Harvest Newsletter. The other you might try is Moi because it is not a heavy sedater but is more uplifting. If you are afraid that the kava is too strong, then just take less. FYI, I started out with the capsules too.

Thank you for the recommendation!

A little about me: I was on heavy benzos for six years, struggled greatly with the long road of withdrawal, and can finally say I am recovered (thank You Jesus). I have done tons of research, taken other herbals along the way, and found that Kava is the one I am quite fascinated by. I am definitely looking to take the edge off and have some peaceful sleep. It's been a long road but I am so, so thankful for it.

Welcome to the forum :)
There are many great vendors on this forum, most of them frequent the forum as well, which is great for us all!
Kalm with kava is a great company, with great kavas...they sell pre-made drinks that from what I hear taste great!
Also sell a drink extract so u would simply take a 1-2 oz shot and shoot it or mix in any drink ect....
I am in love with there pouni ono at the moment lol...its a nice light-ish kava powder, taste is not bad considering how bad kava can taste! provides a great relaxing and uplifting experience :)
Gourmet Hawaiian Kava is another great A+ company that stands behind their products!
They have many strains, send them an email..he could probably recommend something that would fit your needs!
Paradise kava is another company that specialize in extracts, I can vouch and say that they are amazing, taste great!
Oh and there's actually another vendor on here that just sell kava canda, it would be perfect for people just getting into kava...hope this helps some, I just started few months "or less" with kava and I know what you mean, it is hard to go threw every
company to find where to even start! spend a few hours here....scroll to bottom of home page and you will see big list of all vendors...they all have a review page, and you can read what we, the members think about their products! :)

The Gaia capsules are actually a good product. They will give you a mild experience, and are known to be noble. You might need to take more capsules than recommended on the bottle to get the effect you desire.

I am a believer that traditionally prepared root is best though. You can always just adjust the amount you use to get a "Mama Bear" effect (not too strong, not too weak)

Welcome, @Summer!

I think you'll find that the Real Article is head and shoulders above the capsules. I think the capsules are probably good for helping with Reverse Tolerance, but after that it's time to brew your own with powdered root.

If your stomach is strong enough, micronized will probably give you your best bang for the buck without having to do your own kneading and straining. I still prefer the kneading and straining myself, as it's the most cost effective if you don't have a billable rate for the time you spend preparing it.

Please don't hesitate to ask lots of questions. We love lots of questions. There are a lot of really intelligent, experienced, knowledgeable people on here who can field any kava related query.
