What's new

homemade kava shell

Hi,

I'm feeling pretty disgustingly proud of my little homemade coconut shell project. Turned out to be much easier than I would have thought. Saw the top off and then lots of sanding. used a light oil coating for the outside but left inside raw. Anyone else attempted their own. The kava will taste all the more sweeter (?) (or maybe that should be more bitter, hah). Now i just need some actual kava for my shell. Been waiting multiple weeks for a shipment from Hawaii. here are some badly taken pictures for proof of my handy work :)

Would be interested to see anyone else's homemade shells.

I posted something about making shells in an otherwise unrelated thread the other day. I make my own. In fact the only difference is that I oil the inside with food safe oil.

But then I'm super lazy and put my through the dishwasher. And then just re-oil them when they start to look a bit dry.

I actually used to make carved shells. Sold a couple to the fine folks here too. I think theres a few pics somewhere on the forum, probably with the keywords "hand carved shell" or something like that. Looks great though brotha

Wow, that looks great. I really must try making one of those. What kind of oil do you use to coat it with?

Deleted User, usually letting them soak in olive oil keeps them from cracking and gives a shiny deeply dark finish which I like.

Cool, great to see some others making their own shells. Its something I'll definitely try again. Might try and sand the bottom next time so the shell can support itself on a flat surface. It is as I said a lot easier making one than you might think. Anyone thinking of making one really should. Cheers guys for all replies :)
