So I'm sitting here today contemplating putting together an EDC (Everyday Carry) tool kit. Nothing fancy, just a few handy items. In this kit we have a:
Spyderco Ladybug 3 with a VG-10 blade $25Gerber Shard keychain tool $5Streamlight MicroStream LED pen light $17
Total: $47...(smiley: ohwell)
Now what does this have to do with Kava? Good question! $47 can buy some good kava! It's a Sunday, not much to do so I figured I'd ask the forum just for kicks...What would YOU do? Kava or Kit?

I think I'd just go with the Gerber Shard keychain tool and get kava. The knife and the light seem kind of expensive.

The tool looks like it can do a lot. I usually use my keys to cut stuff.

I collect-of all things knives and flashlights so I'd get the kava.  Plus I stand a much better chance of slipping kava past my wife without any attitude (domestic customs) than another knife.

Oh, so you already got your EDC gear.
Domestic customs. (smiley: laugh) I'm going to remember that one when I tie the knot. Bumper sticker status.

Im a prepper, so often times I have to think about how much Im spending on Kava, that I could be spending on preps

I buy guns, knives, gennys, water purifyers, EDCs on Knives, guns, B.O.Bs "Bug out bags" B.O.Vs "bug out vehicles" ANYTHING that has anything to do with survival"

as much as I love Kava, prepping comes first for my family and I, so I think you are making the wise choice.

V, check out Nutnfancy on youtube for reviews, there are all kinds of different EDC items, that the prices dont really reflect the quality. Nutn does reviews on EVERYTHING.

Are you just awakening, "new to prepping" or are you seasoned?

If you need any help, shoot me a message

I'm all over nutnfancy's youtube channel. I mainly watch Sootch00 though. We've been working on some preps since we live in well known earthquake region but it's been going slow. We haven't had much spare cash to add to it.  I don't have the funds to put together a B.O.B but I've been putzing around with some cheapy pocket tools I found in a drawer. They come in handy a surprising number of times. If anything else getting some decent EDC pocket tools is a good starting point I suppose.

For everyday use, Swiss+Tech Ultili-Key gets used the most followed by Swiss+Tech Micro-Max. For any serious assembly or disassembly I have a Felo 280 Series screwdriver kit which is awesome, the drivers are on the ends of a solid shaft with a different tip on each end, much sturdier and nicer to work with than a driver with bits. But I am mostly working with computer stuff. I'd probably go for the Gerber Shard that would probably get used the most, then find something cheaper for the LED flashlight.

For area lighting, I've been liking these GE motion sensing lights, not super bright, but good enough for a little ambient light, single white LED, the batteries last a long time.

Lately, I also bought a solar / dynamo powered radio, the dial isn't super accurate being analog, but it works pretty well.

Now I feel like the only person without any dedicated EDC gear. (smiley: laugh)
Something funny happened  today. I was trying to open one of those thick plastic packages that things come encased in these days...reached into my pocket and...*face palm* (smiley: ohwell) no pocket tools.  That Spyderco would have been so nice right then...darn(smiley: laugh)

The good news in all this is I still have a decent amount of kava on hand. I have enough kava to last about 4 months if I stick to my normal 2 tbsp per week rate of usage...well on paper anyways. Ehh...better make that 3 months. I'll probably give one of my friends a taste of the good stuff this up coming week.

V, I cant live without feeling a knive in my pocket........and in my other pocket, lol

I bet you'll get the same way, yea money sucks when you dont have enough of it, haha

Its good that you are taking a step forward, and shedding youre sheeple "sheep/people" wool.

I like the SOG Flash for just a everyday in the pockey knife, it runs about 40-50 bucks, is lightweight, and is spring assisted, NOT FULLY assisted making it legal to own in most states.

take the face off, superglue the safety "it sucks" and walla, you got a wonderful knife

You should check out SHTFM.com, some people there are "armchair commandos" but there is a bunch of useful info there.

Oh I never had a wool suit. (smiley: laugh) I've had a Mchenery and Williams 710 in D2 and an Osborne 791 in 154CM since high school. Both gifts. I started the paper work for my XD the week I turned 21.I saved up for a very long time to get that. (smiley: tired) Odd story behind that, maybe some other time. I gave the 791 to a friend. The 710 is really nice but twice the size I want to EDC every day.
I think I'm ok for kava. Unless I come across a really good deal I'll probably place an order for some EDC items next weekend.
I think we need a "non-related" section here to. It's so hard not to go off (loosely related) topic in a kava forum.(smiley: laugh)

We really ought to be figuring out how to build subterranean cities and colonize the moon. If a comet hits, even prepper skills might not be enough. I wish I could write a message to the future in a cave. If I follow the format of primitive cave paintings, basically it's going to be like a menu. "If you were here while we were alive, you could have bought a Big Mac and some French Fries."

I think this is a great idea. I actually have bug out kit in my car with; car parts, various fluids, blankets, water, survival food, fishing pole and survival kit and full first aid kit. I also have a SHTF (shit hits the fan) kit for my home for the likely event there is war or riots or possibly virus, that consists of several weapons and at least a full month of food and medicine. There's no such thing as being too prepared as good as it is to have kava it is unlikely to save your life in the event of an emergency.

Almost the exact setup as me, though I don't have much in my car. I should. I don't go all out in preparedness but I do enough to have a decent handle if shit ever did hit the fan.

(smiley: smokin) Should stock some kava in there too. Calm down a riot, maybe. (smiley: laugh)
