How to control or set when the site automatically logs me out ?

The site's default settings automatically log me out, after a very short period of inactivity ; much shorter then I prefer.
How can I adjust it, so it waits longer to automatically log me out.
I tried the most logical place i could find : Preferences ; but there was no such thing located there that I could find.

When you log in, click the box to the left of "Stay Logged in" this will allow you to return to the site without having to log in every time. However, if you clear your cache and cookies often it will ask you to log in more frequently because that is where your login session information is stored.
