Kava Curious
Hi my name is Bob.
I am new to kava. It has been about a week with using it. I haven't used it everyday, first few days I did but then I gave some breaks here and there. Before trying kava I read around the internet and researched as much as I could. Also while I don't know of anyone personally who uses kava, I have heard of friends who know/knew of friends and family members who had used it and that their experiences were good with it for relieving stress.
To not make a long story; In early 2008 I started weaning down from prescription medicines. In December of 2008 I totally removed myself off from the last medicine, last pill. As a short amount of time went by I started noticing things that were cropping up that were not there before I had taken the medicines. I was on Psychotropics from 17 to 34 years of age.
For a little over six years I had to deal what was termed as full blown anxiety disorder; this includes an immense deal of anxiety that causes bodily symptom of surges and hot flash sensations, OCD, slight hoarding issues, oddball thinking, coping issues, and times with being upset. Some of my friends have a chuckle when I mention "hot flash" to them. I assure them that, yes, it is possible for guys to have them too especially with full blown anxiety disorders. As time passed by it seemed like things would improve but there was always leftover stuff that would remain and sometimes get worse over time.
Over the years I have tried some things to try and minimize these burdens and without much for results nor success. Common teas haven't really done it for me with the exception of a tea I found at a local herb shop last week. After doing some reading about kava I decided to walk on over and get some. For the first few days I felt slightly the effects from the kava and noticed that my anxiety and body sensations from it were lessened. The effects were like this until about the 4th day when more benefit came.
I had a cup of kava tea last night. I used half of a tea ball with a normal sized cup. With me I require lesser amounts than what would be normally used. I guess that is the way my body and mind reacts. About an hour later after the tea I felt a warming calm that I don't believe I had ever felt before. Tell you the truth I can't recall when I felt ever really calm. I was laying down in bed with not any real anxiety, no body sensations from it, OCD was still there but a lot of it was kept at bay and my worry was totally put to the side and yet I was focused and had my sense about me. This was like a new me.
I really want to continue using kava. One thing that came up earlier today is that I was told at the dentist office to stop taking the kava tea for one week. I had informed them that I was taking kava and they had no idea what I was even talking about. I had to direct them to the internet. I did say something about that there was information about holding off for a week before a surgery but it was unclear if local anesthetics, novocaine shot, was of any conflict. Because of the dentists not being sure they told me to stop using kava for a week. Now I have to think out what to do until next week.
Out of the many of the things that I have tried, kava is so far the only thing that has helped me, greatly. My goal is to have a little bit of help so that I will be able to do my therapy stuff and get down to the issues that have caused the trouble for me. I had to take time off from work. I'm very grateful for my work friends and my bosses. Very supportive and are there for me if I need to talk or anything. My plan was to return to work around early February. Maybe it is too soon but it has been about a month all ready. Guess I'll just see what happens.
Thanks for letting me be a member here and I look forward to hearing other people's experiences and stories.
Edit: As an update I went through some more searches about kava and anesthetics and now I am seeing that there is a minimum of two weeks that a person should not be taking kava before an operation. yet still I am not finding anything as far as dental local anesthetics go. I cannot recall where I had the information about the one week hold off. Anyone have any experiences with this?
