I bought A waka grade Kava, IT HAS STEMS in it. Are those what are responsible for liver damage and

Bought a half pound of it.It was cheap. I was reading online about how Numerous deaths are associated with Either Wrongful use of kava with components which have taxing effects effects on the liver Like alcohol. And also theories about how using Common waste products of kava Do that as well when they were wrongfully sold . So it has me a bit on the fence. let me know.

Do you have a link to the product? Are they definitely stems, does it say that on the packaging or are you guessing that they are? Maybe upload an image of it and somebody more knowledgeable than myself might be able to identify what part of the kava plant it is.

Looks closely you see little stems.

Interesting because we were discussing that particular product but nobody here has tried it. Let us know how it is if you do.


I'm not the guy to ask but that looks like root fibers, not stems, to me, similar to the kavas I've had.

Are you sure they're not just root fibres? There are little fibres that look like tiny wood chips in almost all root powders, unless they're micronised.

That is just root pieces not stems. I have 3 different kavas from 3 different vendors (N@H, BKH, KBR) and they all have similar larger pieces like that.


Glad to see someone buy that kava. I too have looked at it a few times but never made the purchase. Let us know how it is!


Also where did you read about numerous deaths from kava use? Sure there are some accounts of some liver damage with a certain type of kava extract but I have never heard of any kava deaths even using with alcohol.

Deaths associated were all in combination with other substances or Prior liver complications So Relax for life!. hah.

I drink kava that looks like that all the time (especially some Vanuatu stuff I have). No problems yet. As others said I don't think you're looking at stems there.
