I'm new to the world of kava with just one year of experience, I have learned so much about it and have made purchases because of the well informed members here sharing their knowledge. Just wanted to say hello and thanks.

Hey! We love kava too! It's quite a magical root. Welcome to the forums.

That's a pretty sweet user name. That never even occurred to me and it really cool. I picked quite a mine a while ago when I had only had about 10 batches of kava under my belt, now almost 2 years and quite alot of experience I wish I could change my name to something more awesome or maybe even "notsonew2kavaanymore". Anyway welcome to the lounge!

This forum is indeed cool. I'm also new to real kava. Had used those yogi teas in the past but they're not very potent. Can hardly feel it with those. I ramble.

I'd watch out for the yogi teas. They contain quite alot of sassafras root which means they contain safrole which is carcinogenic. Using pure safrole has been banned by the FDA due to that. It is the original flavor that birch beer and root beer were made with. It also has a long history as being used as an intoxicant. It it is also used as the precursor for MDMA and like compounds. I've heard of allergic reactions to yogi tea and people assumed it was the kava, but I think the safrole was more likely. Also kavalactones are unstable lactones and break down in high heat. Anything above 140 degrees is structurally deleterious to kava and boiling water is basically a death sentence.

Your much better off with good pure root. The newfangled ways of doing it don't work half as well as the ways the good people of the South Pacific and Hawaii have been doing it for centuries.
