I use kava for a peculiar reason...

I am in the process of bettering my health and appearance by losing weight. Sometimes I'll take a tablespoon or so of kava (toss n' wash) and it will suspend my appetite for hours. The mood-boosting qualities and feelings of relaxation are a big bonus.

I know kava is not generally thought of to be a weight loss wonder solution, but it makes my fasting days a breeze.

I've always thought that kava's ability to help with weight loss was primarily from its horrible taste. ie "Holy hell, this is so bad I can't even fathom eating something until this is scraped off my tongue"

It definitely helps with weight loss. I started drinking it for anxiety and then noticed it was curbing my appetite, and lost a few pounds. This gave me motivation to start eating better and it really helps to curb cravings. I'm down 19 pounds since I started drinking kava and eating healthier.

I can also attest to this. Started drinking kava, started loosing weight like a fiend. Never gained it back either, which is puzzling because some of the things I eat are....questionably unhealthy.

I think kava helps me manage weight as well. First because I'm replacing the calories of alcohol with kava. Secondly because I will fast longer in the afternoon, then eat a latter/ smaller dinner.

Whatever works! Are you tossing medium grind? You May want to try micro instead.

@Aspire, I have noticed that Kava does put down my appetite. But try this theory. Many people eat too much because eating makes them happy. Same with drinking alcohol. A big old bowl of really good ice cream will put a smile on anyone's face and a ton of calories on your waistline. But what if you got your happiness from kava instead? Well, that means you don't need the ice cream anymore. Or the bottle of red wine or the six pack of calorie laden craft beer. It's a win win. (New phrase which I just invented).

I think kava is a wonderful weight-loss remedy. Kava simply makes one not-hungry. I think it sucks, since my appetite is one of my biggest inner values that always seems to stick with me, no matter what happens in life, lol.

Great to read all of your weight loss experiences! It seems that kava results in some weight loss without even trying, but when I combine it with some real intentional effort, the pounds melt off.

I am tossing micro. I decided to give "cheap" kava powder from Mountain Rose a try once because a friend insisted it was good. I am never doing that again! Although the cheap stuff was half the price, GHK micro is 2 to 3 times more potent, guaranteed not to have makas, and is the result of a real labor of love.

I lost 10 lbs. the first week. I've kept it off. I do a lot of evening eating. Now I fast from 3:00p.m. until 6:30 p.m., then start my kava session. I have a piece of cheese after I drink my kava. I don't know if it's the taste or just being relaxed, but I don't snack all night.

In doing research for the ghk contests, I found a lot of mentions that kava was used for weight loss in Hawaii.

Another vote here for kava having a weight loss side effect. For me it's a combination of factors mentioned above: if you are a stress-eater and kava helps with your anxiety, then it can definitely lessen those urges to binge on junky food for comfort. If you are using kava instead of alcohol, that will help take the pounds off as well.

I've lost about 10-12 pounds since cutting back on drinking in July and starting kava at the same time. I wish it was more, but I seem to have shitty metabolism these days, probably effed up from years of heavy drinking and also being a woman in my mid-40s with my hormones all going to crap. I'd like to lose another 20 or so but I know it's going to be slow-going.
