Six Years ago, after two years of planning I opened what was at the time the only West Coast kava bar. We opened with an intent to be faithful and respectful of kava culture by offering a positive experience to my fellow Portlanders, and building a community of kava enthusiasts. Shortly after opening the bar, I realized that we were in a unique position to fill a hole in the online kava sales industry by offering high quality kava at a reasonable price, in a professional way. At first I just figured that online sales would be supplementary to the bar, but it soon became apparent that kava's 3,000 plus year draw across the Western Pacific would extend to the US market. Business exploded and the online store was soon propping up the kava bar. We quickly became a leader in the space, setting trends and expectations, and selling tons of some of the best kava to people all over the world.
The kava bar took longer to take off. We made mistakes early, but the simple fact is that convincing enough people in a small city to drink a mild, non-addictive intoxicant that tastes like dirt is tough. Nevertheless, we persisted, and a couple years ago, we found the popularity I always knew the Bula Kava House bar was capable of. We always had a nice community of regulars. The difference now is the community is more like a super peaceful, relaxed army.
We continue to grow year after year, and things are only getting better. Expect new products in 2017 from new, rare, and high quality root, to micronized offerings of some of our current kava options, and a long awaited Co2 extract and a bottled beverage. Overall you can trust that we'll continue to respect the culture and tradition of kava, and the people that enjoy that culture with us.
We couldn't do what we do without the amazing people that are invested in our success. These include online, and in-house customers, bloggers and reviewers, and some wonderfully dedicated employees and business associates. To all of you, there aren't enough thanks in the world. You are not taken for granted for the years of support.
All the Best,
Judd
