What's new

Just had my first shell

Thanks for the help the other night.  I receive various kavas from a few different vendors, and some very nice coconut cups from the keys.
I decided to go with BKH's Fu'u for my first time.  I prepared two large tablespoons with 1 cup of water and a dash of whole milk.
About 5 minutes ago I took down my first shell.  The taste wasn't as bad as I expected, but I know that has to do with Fu'u being a lighter kava.  Noticed slight numbness in my mouth, but not much else yet.  I will be going for shell 2 in a few more minutes, and keep this thread posted with updates through out the day.
thanks again.

Took the last of the shells about an hour after the first.  It has been a few minutes since then, but no obvious effect.
I guess reverse tolerance is in full effect.  It sucks, but I guess every kava drinker has to be patient pay their dues.  I might order 1/2-1 Kilo of a root that is a little cheaper to get through the RT period.

I'd recommend getting a 1/2 or 1 kilo of root. Drink about 1/4-1/2 cup of root a day and over the course of a month you'll start noticing increased effects untill you start getting fully krunked.

I'd recommend Bula Kava House, I'd say the borogu or melo melo is great for beginners. Also Kava By Rex has lbs for a good price and you save on shipping getting when they put 2 in an envelope. I just ordered 2 lbs this week from Rex and it cost 59$. I almost ordered 1/2 kilo of boroguro and 1/4 kilo of nambawen but the shipping cost changed my mind. Though if I end up being disappointed by by my rex kava I'm really gonna wish I'd just ordered my usual boroguro, as that stuff is consistantly awesome.

What I have is BKH Fu'u, BKH Nambawen (Black Bag), and N@H Stone.  I was going to get the Borogu from BKH, but they were sold out, and N@H Stone is Borogu.
I'm going to be saving the Black Bag for a later point.  I'm too much a noob for it now, but I heard it sells out fast and takes a while to get back in stock.
I don't mind using up all my Fu'u for the initial reverse tolerance stage, but I don't want to waste a good kava just for the sake of getting trough this period.  That is why I'm thinking of getting 1/2 - 1 Kilo of something like Melo Melo.
I wish there was a way to speed up the RT phase, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it.  I was thinking of making a few more shells tonight, but it would be a waste.  I guess it's a good time for some K@ tea.

I used the extracts (I guess) and some candy and some pills of powder to build up my reverse tolerance.  Not that I was sure about what was happening.  I felt'something' almost from the start. Drinking Paradise Fiji now .  Huge difference from the start 2 months ago.  I need less every day.:)

I think the N@H version of borogu is either white or black sand kava. Stone is a really high DHM kava strain which I have found to be one of the strongest I've come across, just expensive.

Boroguru is alot like stone in thats it's high DHM, just not as potent but also almost half the price.

It took a while trying to find the N@H version of what I was looking for.  They have so many different names for their different kavas, but according to there site, Stone is "This kava is made using only mature lateral root from Vanautu Borogu kava..."
Since I was trying to get a variety of low and high DHM kavas to figure out which I prefer, I went with Fu'u and Borogu.  I know Black Bag is powerful, but I would rather get my feet wet with kavas that are more suitable for a noob, rather than jumping head first into the deep end.
I am not sure if I should get a Kilo of Boroguru or Melo Melo for the reverse tolerance phase, or maybe I should just get 1/5k of each for even more of a variety.
I wound up making another small dose of Fu'u tonight.  I wasn't expecting to feel much, but I was hoping it might get me through my reverse tolerance soon.  BTW, Mixing a little K@ with a little kava does wonders for pain relief.

Same thing happened to me on my first and second try, but I kept drank quite a bit on the first two sittings and the third night I was really krunked, lol. Think I drank a little too much though because I felt pretty dizzy.

Boroguru has been my favorite for a while. Melo melo is good is just is at the opposite end of the spectrum, well not as much as fu'u. You may want to pick up some soy lectin. You can get it online for pretty cheap, I actually just got it at GNC. It was 15$ FOR A LB but I've had it almost a year and still have half left. Just boil a cup of water and disolve in like 1 tsp of lectin and then add cool water or coconut water (not coconut milk, especially the nasty condensed stuff) and let it sit for like a half hour. The hand knead for at least 20 minutes or blend for at least 5 and and still knead some. I recommend a coconut cup as well, for what ever reason it just feels more legit.

I want to say hello and to thank all of you for having this place to learn about kava. I just got a yuku account yesterday so I could ask you kind people questions and participate in this with you. I am learning about threads and words like that. So I know this might not be the place to say hello but it took 3 shells to overcome my social anxiety to say anything at all. I feel I know some of you because I have been following your words in this forum. Again thank you and I would like to know about positive changes kava has brought in your lives. :)

preparing some Fu'u at the moment. Hopefully today's results are a little better, but I won't expect much. I will check in a little later and let you guys know.

I will look into some soy lechtin. I have read that quite a few people use that in their kava.

Thanks again.
and for anyone looking for authentic coconut cups/bowl, I found mine here:http://www.ebay.com/itm/R...&hash=item588ee12628

Aloha Guys,
Probably drank 10-14 large cups of kava bar style kava (generally weaker than what you make at home) and it took the second day of drinking kava again to feel anything.

I've noticed that people who can handle their alcohol, or are into marijuana use, or are generally desensitized to certain medications since take them frequently; are the ones who need a lot of kava at first.

RT hits them the hardest but they can overcome it, like anyone else. This is generally speaking of course and there is no science behind it, just years of learning people's experience at Farmer's Markets.

All the best~ Keep posting Dukester!

I understand the feeling.  I've heard a bizarre rumour that some people are pretending to be members of the British Royal Family.

Had my daily dose of dirt water today. Still no noticeable effects, and the taste surely isn't getting any better. Hopefully something changes soon.

Thanks for the encouragement

Perhaps a dose too small?

Perhaps.  I have been using doses according to label and according to what others suggest.
I can try upping the dose, or I was thinking about trying a Borogu instead.

Couldn't get to sleep yet, so I decided to sneak in a small round for a night cap. I decided to go with N@H's Stone this time. Not sure if the RT is almost over, or if it's just the difference in the kava I used, but I did feel some more noticeable effects tonight.

Right off the bat, I noticed the taste difference. I prefer the taste of the Stone (borogu) compared to the Fu'u that I have been using. Stone has a slight peppery taste that seems to go down easier. The Fu'u has a strange consistency in the water that I haven't learned to appreciate yet. I have read a post where someone compares it to paint, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that.

I only had two shells (1 large table spoon kava in about 3/4c water), so I didn't get krunk off of it, but it was a pleasant surprise. I was in a rush preparing it tonight, and I am sure if I had given it a few ore minutes of love that the final product would've been much stronger.

Thanks again for your help, and pardon any misspellings and grammar. It's late, and now I can finally blame it on the kava.
