Kava and Coffee

Kava, Caffeine, and CYP1A2

(Icey, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons) Recently we covered CYP450 enzymes and how kava may inhibit the activity at some of these areas. Today we’re going to focus specifically on the enzyme CYP1A2, and how inhibiting it effects caffeine metabolism.

I personally find the mix unappealing and too "buzzy" for me to think straight. Coffee with some L-theanine in the morning gives me the right amount of get up and go with a calm focus for work that kava can't touch. Kava is my end of day wind down, or mid-day when I got nothing much but laborious chores.

It makes my heart go thump thump to quick. I do not like to mix caffeine (mainly caffeine water aka coffee) and kava, but I do find a nice cup of black tea at the end of the session helps negates the tired effects from the kava.

I don’t like mixing coffee with it in most cases but I like tea with it and sometimes enjoy natural energy drinks with it

The question is all about ratio.
Ratio can make all the difference in the world with these 2.

Theres a very quick tolerance to the dopamine effects of coffee though.
I do not like the combination at all tbh.
