Kava consumption related to LDL cholesterol levels

Kava Curious
I'm curious if any other regular drinkers have noticed their LDL levels rise with heavy consumption of Kava?  My theory is that a regularly used hepatoxin like kava might interfere with the liver's regulation of cholesterol.  My ldl cholesterol is high even though I excercise regularly, eat a largly vegetarian diet with zero junk food and have minimal body fat.

I was off kava for 3 years living in central america and only restarted a couple of years back and since then I've been trying to get my cholesterol back down with little luck.  Of course I also got a desk job and put on thirty pounds, but even after losing the spare tire the cholesterol won't drop.

Anyone else?  Is it possible that the extra taxation on the liver keeps it from doing its job?

Maybe look for research indicating a higher level of heart disease among the native peoples in kava drinking regions, i.e. Vanuatu, Hawaii, etc. as this would be the end result of sustained high LDL levels. Of course, the diets of these people may offset kava's effects, if any.

Personally, I do not know the answer to this. However, I did find research showing a strong link between reduced LDL and HDL levels among regular Yerba Mate drinkers. Something to consider...
