We had a large thread about that recently actually. I resolved to find some for my garden since it apparently grows easily, but then never followed up on it.

Also found this article, about the addictive potential of spices: http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/ho...-spices/6b1192544e03a8659d455a11fdeb6658.html

Is your kid watching the cooking channel late into the night? Have they been cooking up delicious curries? Are you getting a large bill from Penzey's Spices every month? It could be that they're actually a dangerous drug addict.

I'm more interested in the 300 psychoactive ginger varieties they have in PNG

Searched and found this, kinda interesting: http://www.samorini.it/doc1/alt_aut/sz/thomas.pdf
This is a wrong figure. My friend went through the draft of that piece and told the journalist it was a typo (I think the correct figure is closer to 30) and that he should write "several" to play it safe. He obviously decided that 300 sounded better. :( It's a great piece, but it's still something written by a journalist, not a scientist and it's still not a peer reviewed article. :(

lol, I thought it was a joke. That's probably something I would say flippantly to a journalist. Around 30 species of psychoactive ginger is still pretty amazing, actually.
