Hi:
I'm just getting started with 'real' Kava and trying to help quell an anxiety disorder from late stage Lyme Disease. Just wondering if anyone else is using Kava 'medically' to treat an anxiety disorder?
Mainly interested in how much you take and how often you take it throughout the day. I've just started with Kava King Vanuatu instant and like the effects, but am trying to figure out how much to take and how often during the day to take it to help calm this anxiety disorder.

I use a weaker lower strength shell at breakfast to ride out the work day. Sometimes I will take another at lunch if the effects stop. Then I take larger double shells before dinner.
Oh and I am also in VA(Tidewater/Hampton Roads)

Hey thanks Squanch. Good to hear from a fellow Virginian! Like you, I have anxiety issues and migraines! Praying that Kava can help with both. I did 3 teaspoons of Vanuatu instant this morning and 3 more this afternoon. I feel it a little, but not enough yet to get excited. I may need to dose higher or wait and see if reverse tolerance kicks in.

Your best bet really, is to try many different varieties and start with a low dose and work your way up until you know the effects they have on you and can find the right kind/dose that works for what you need. You'll probably find that you like several kinds and have different preferences for daytime compared to night time. If you are interested in instants, there are many to choose from.

I second this. Started off with kava king and felt the relaxing properties. But then went for a sample pack and that was the kicker. Started feeling all the different levels that it has to offer.

Ghk has sampler packs with three varieties that give shining examples of the kava spectrum. (Something like Mo'i, Mahakea, Nene) Also I find fasting for 4+ hours is imperative for me to have positive effects.

@Daveinva Welcome ::happyshell::! Neurolyme is a beast and in case it's helpful, if the lyme, coinfections, and comorbidities aren't properly and completely addressed you'll continue to have symptoms. Also wanted to interject that many neuro symptoms including anxiety can be indicative of the need for detox, which therapeutic amounts of kava could add stress to.

That said, kava can be an amazing helper for anxiety issues. I used it to medically treat many things. I suffered over 10 years with daily tension headaches in between chronic cluster headaches, kava completely got rid of those!! I hope it helps you too! Therapeutically I got the most benefit by taking a little in the morning, sometimes again in the afternoon, then a full session in the evening.

Another vote for the sample packs. The effects from the Kava King instant are very nice but for me it isn't all that potent. You may find you get a lot more mileage out of your kava by trying instants from other vendors. I love the convenience of the micronized and instant kavas. But for me they don't match the potency and full spectrum of effects experienced from a good traditionally squeezed grog, which can be more cost effective in the long run.

Instant to me is more like the candy for some reason , it's really light effect wise and doesn't give me the full spectrum of kava . I haven't tried micro yet but medium seems to be my favorite. As I'm a wholistic kind of guy anywho. I don't like extracts of anything.

I suffer from near daily migraines. How long did it take kava to shake off your migraines? I have been drinking daily, several times a day, for about 6 months with no change in my migraines.

@Squanch72 Sorry to hear that, daily migraines must be dreadful (n). Kava remedied my daily headaches very early on. My clusters were infrequent by the time I discovered kava, I suspect they were triggered by something in my diet. I have since learned I have some histamine intolerance among other things. Sometimes the most seemingly benign foods can be migraine triggers.

My daily headaches rarely return while off kava, and are much milder than they used to be since I began treating the underlying cause. I feel that medically kava can be a wonderful helper of sorts for so many symptoms, but it doesn't substitute very well for treatment in the presence of known medical issues.
