Kava Preparation Kava in the water. No waves?

I read this:
"Once Kava hits liquid, it immediately starts losing its potency. Liquid above certain temperatures break down the active ingredients that give Kava its calming effects faster than in colder liquids."

I have been using the aluball and I do three washes. I feel like I have to do them fast after each other and drink them fast so that the kava doesn't lose potency.
Also I use quite warm water, above room temp, is that a bad idea? Should I use cold water instead?

It's been noted before that warm water may degrade the adhesive between the mesh and the ball. It may work well but the balls might fail sooner then later. It's usually best to use room temp. or cold water.

I let my washes sit for a while in it, I never had a problem. I have also left a second wash overnight, with the aluball wet but empty in the fridge, without any problem.

Hot water does not harm kava unless it is tea temperature for hours.

It's true that the kavalactones will melt ...but so does water and it's still okay to turn back to ice when temperature is right. Same is true of the lactones... the hot water really helps bring them out of the starch... the finer the grind the less this is necessary since the grinding proccess is breaking it down as well.

Long story short tho. The kavalactones need to be broken from the cells. Either through pounding . Maceration. Heat. Or blending... as long as the cells break and you don't boil the kava for 10 hours you'll be okay . .

The difference is in effects .

Cold produces a much more stimulating beverage.
Hot water produces a more deep heavy krunk and is less likely to cause anxiety.
Enjoy experimenting.

use whatever you like

fwiw I use cold water when I want and the grog is fine. I do a first wash at night and put the bag in the fridge overnight and do a second wash the next day and it's fine. no cause for any worries here. Do what you like. Of course, I'm just talking about bags, I know nothing of balls.

So last evening I did this:
First wash was cold with a bit of oat milk. Shaked for 2min.
Then I put the aluball in the fridge.
Second wash, 30min later was also cold with no milk.
Put it back in the fridge.
About 20min later back for a third wash with not too hot water, I could good my finger in it without crying. It just felt a bit warm. Just 30sec in the microwave.
I could feel my mouth numbing and I did a fourth wash the same way afterward.

This really gave me a lot more in effect than before. It was more stimulating and then more sedating.

You know you're doing it right when your kava experiences just keep getting better and better! :)

Without aluball, with strainer, can one use cold water then? I have never tried that.

I get the feeling that cold/warm doesn't matter when it comes to instant and micro. It's all ending up in your stomach anyway.
